1. NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS

1.1 Indian elections May 2014

(i) The election victory of BJP under Narendra Modi was a great surprise to every one. We meet visitors from Hindusthan during Special London Tours and the general consensus was that BJP may have to enter into coalition with other parties. Various E Mails we received from Hindusthan and America also predicted a win for Congress Party again.

They all have been proved wrong. Even Rahul Gandhi’s outburst that RSS was responsible for killing of Mahatma Gandhi, did not have any effect. It served as a trump card for Congress Party for a long time, but no more. BJP now has absolute majority in the Parliament. The bogey of Muslim block vote has been smashed.

We note two signs of optimism

(1)  Special Commission has been appointed to get back black money held abroad by Indian citizens.

(2) The mischief played by Mani Shankar Iyer in Andaman jail is going to be rectified.

(ii) We also hope that Modi does not make same mistakes as made by our leaders in the past. After suffering from Muslim barbarity for 200 years Sikhs finally established their kingdom under Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1801. But he got possessed by the idea that he MUST BE FAIR to Muslims. Why? And astonishingly in 2014 Inderjit Singh of Sikh Messenger tells us with pride of Ranjit Singh’s generosity to Muslims (BBC Radio4). At one locality Hindus complained about noise made by Muslims during their call to prayer. Ranjit Singh replied, “If you agree to remind Muslims about their time for prayer I will listen to your complaint about their noise.” And how did Muslims in Punjab pay back? By committing most barbaric atrocities on Sikhs in 1947.

(iii) Going through past records Godbole found out that on 19 September 2009 he had conducted one Special London Tour for Anandiben Patel, then one of the ministers in Narendra Modi’s cabinet of Gujarath. She is now Chief Minister of Gujarath. Let is hope that one day Godbole will organize a Special London Tour for Narendra Modi too

We expect Modi’s Government to  -

(i) Open up all Government files up to 1984, just as the British Government does. Let us know our true history.

(ii) Expose scams of Sonia, Sharad Pawar and their cronies. This should not be one off but must be done continuously over the period of 5 years so that people will never vote for them again.

(iii) Control activities of NGOs. They are funded from abroad for anti-India activities.

(iv) Keep tabs on moles planted in BJP by CIA, ISI, Sonia and others. They are parasites.

(v) Keep dossier on all his opponents. One list is easily seen in Stop-Modi campaign.

1.2 Death of Vikram Savarkar

On 23 February  Hindu Mahasabha's former chief Vikramrao Savarkar, a nephew of freedom-fighter and Hindu leader V.D. Savarkar, died of old age at his residence in Maharashtra's Thane district. He was 82. As the president of Hindu Mahasabha in the 1970s and 1980s, he had campaigned for a united India, a common civil code, protection of Hindus, protesting against the Shimla Agreement between India and Pakistan after the 1971 Bangladesh war, and also took up other nationalist and patriotic issues. He was the founder of the Swatantraveer Savarkar Seva Samiti and was also instrumental in setting up the Swatantraveer Savarkar National Memorial (SSNM) in Mumbai. He is survived by his wife Swamini, sons Prithviraj, Ranjit and daughter Snusha. Thousands of followers and Hindu Mahasabha activists gathered at Savarkar's residence to pay homage to him.

>> Through internet, Godbole has established contact with Ranjit, son of Vikram Savarkar.

Vikram used to run a Marathi monthly called Prajwalant. Ranjit has informed that all the issues of Prajwalant are available in Savarkar Smarak in Mumbai. Godbole has asked Dr Bedekar to get all these issues scanned and make a CD for future generations.

Ranjit is chairman of Swatantryaveer Savarkar National Memorial, Mumbai.

1.3 Savarkarvadis

When in Hindusthan (January / February) Godbole was given a calendar by Savarkar Premi Mitra Mandal of Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad). The size is 45 cm x 58 cm. This is too big to be of any use. Normal size is 27 x 41 cm.

Why can’t Savarkar-premis be sensible?

1.4 Communications in Hindusthan before the British Raj

(i) Before birth of Shivaji (1630) people used to pray

Kolhapur Laxmi dar ughad baya

Telangan Laxmi dar ughd baya

Kannad Laxmi dar ughad baya

They were asking Goddess Adishakti Bhavani (in various forms) to give them a son who will liberate them from the tyranny of Muslim Sultans.

But Telangana is in Andhra Pradesh. Marathi and Telgu speaking people were not talking to each other till the British Raj! Same goes for Marathi and Kannad speaking people. What nonsense!

(ii) Famous Ambabai (Mahalaxmi) of Kolhapur is our (Godbole’s) family deity. We go there every time we visit Pune. Once I noticed some writing in Kannad and asked a relative for an explanation. He said, “This Ambabai is also an important deity of Kannad speaking people. They visit this temple regularly.”

(iii) In Pune there is a famous Parvati temple on a hill. Among the group of temples there is also a temple of Kartikeya. Marathi speaking women do not go inside this temple. Again there is a notice in Kannad. When Godbole asked for an explanation he was told, “Once a Kannad speaking friend came here and enquired whose temple it was. We told him, “Temple of Kartikeya, Marathi women do not go inside.” He was surprised and said, “Kannad women do visit Kartikeya temple and pray for fertility. Do write a notice in Kannad and our people would love to visit this temple.” And yet we are told that Kannad and Marathi speaking people did not talk to each other till the British Raj!

(iv) Temples of deity Vithoba are found all over Maharashtra. But he was originally worshipped in Karnataka!

(v) First sign of written Marathi is to be found in Shravan Belgola in Karnataka. On the huge statue of Gomteshwar is written Chamunda Raje karaviyale. (around year 973)

(vi) Saint (Sant) Namdev is famous in Maharashtra. How come we find his verses in Gurugranth of Sikhs? Did people of Punjab and Maharashtra talk to each other before the British? Of course they did.

The usual flawed argument in support of English was that only after the British rule Indians of various provinces started talking to each other and realized that they were all Indians!

Savarkar argued – why did educated Muslims did not feel the same way? Hindus felt that they were all Indians because they are a nation, they did not need the British Rule.

Godbole commented

Dear friends,

The title of seminar is wrong. It gives an impression that you are falsifying history.

Title should be - It's time to re-examine our history.

When an American writes Indian History, does he say "This is Indian History from American point of view?" He merely says - THIS IS INDIAN HISTORY.

1.6 RSS taking part in Republic Day parade on 26 January 1963

In January 2013 Godbole had circulated a picture of this event. He received the photo from Shree B R Haran of Chennai.

It is surprising to see that the same picture has been circulated by VHP International HQ New Delhi (Gautam Chatterjee) on 15 March 2014 and also by Satish Dewan.

The question is this – Why were RSS Chiefs silent about this important piece of information for more than 50 years?

1.7 Americans are interfering again

In February 2014 American Ambassador Nancy Powell met Narendra Modi then Gujarat Chief Minister AND some NGOs.

On Sat, Feb 15, 2014 at 12:04 AM, <joshiml@yahoo.com> wrote:  As a US Ambassador, she must have obtained permission from Ministry of External Affairs to meet various "NGO" organizations and obtained necessary pre-visit security clearance, all paid by GOI. Most Ambassadors these days keep their itinerary confidential for security reasons. Indian media has no reason to find out as long as it is to dismantle NaMO.

On the other hand, have we seen any Indian Ambassador posted in western countries ever dare to meet with anti-government NGOs in western or Islamic nations?  Can you imagine an Indian Ambassador plan a meeting with the Canadian PM in the morning and then on the same day have a meeting with Native Indian groups in Alberta asking for nationhood and separation from Canada? or go to China and meet Tibet separatists? (Of course not! We are eternally guided by Bapu)

Most NGOs in Gujarat are working for anti-national groups supported by Teesta, Arundhati, Medha Patkar, Javed / Shabana, and Mahesh Bhatt. Shree NaMo knows very well about these rats and their pro-Pakistani activities.

On foreign policy side, the US has been consistent with their view with respect to India, Indian Muslims and Pakistan.  All US Secretary of State visit both India and Pakistan during same trip. .. It is stupid to expect that the US will hug Hindus in public and spit on Muslims, that too inside India. Hindus will have to learn how to deal with the US having only business or transactional relationship with India. Nancy Powell did inform NaMO about G-8, IMF, WTO, etc. under Chacha international community. In other words, join the club or you will be side lined.

As far as Indian NGOs are concerned, they will not disappear if we simply identify them in public. Chacha spends roughly $60 billion per year supporting NGOs around the world (roughly 1/3rd resources in India and China) for long-term foreign policy and political/economic objectives (50+ years in the future)… Slavish Indians having lowest self-worth are easy victims and become a part of NGO. Congress has made sure that Indians remain poor, hungry, desperate and always ready to grab easy $ for anything.

Shree NaMo will be extra careful with double dealing Chacha.  Most business contracts in Gujarat go to Japan, Germany and SE Asian nations anyway. Japan is the infrastructure partner in Gujarat.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ahmedabad/Nancy-Powell-meets-women-artisans-at-Sewa/articleshow/30364968.cms

AHMEDABAD: US Ambassador Nancy Powell who visited Gujarat CM and BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar later spent time with women artisans and leaders of Self Employed Women's Association (Sewa) listening to their experiences of building and running all-woman agricultural produce company 'Rudi'.

After around one hour meeting with Modi, Nancy Powell went to leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela’s residence where the meeting was also joined by Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia and former state Congress president Siddharth Patel.

 Read more at: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/narendra-modi-nancy-powell-meeting-us-approach-to-modi-still-confused/1/343266.html

The meeting between Nancy Powell and Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar on Thursday might be seen as a positive step in the Gujarat Chief Minister's tempestuous relations with the US but facts on the ground indicate that the US is trying to do a balancing act in the vain hope of keeping Modi as well as his enemies happy.

But the US does not seem to realise the pitfalls of such an approach for long-term foreign policy in case a consummate political player such as Modi becomes the prime minister.

Interestingly, a dinner hosted by the Consul General in Ahmedabad last year had a fairly large number of virulent anti-Modi activists.

This balancing act of the US might be fraught with danger for its foreign policy in case Modi becomes the prime minister because he has a penchant for not forgetting the barbs he faced in the past and reacting to them even after long intervals and in a manner in which the blame doesn't get pinned down on him as a matter of public perception.

1.8 Visit to Pune (January / February 2014)

Some observations missing from previous newsletter

(i) Roads – car lights are very bright. On the dividers there are small leaflet like pieces - say 12 inch wide and 2 ft 6 inch high which will reduce impact on drivers, of lights of cars coming from other side of road divider.

So, we can make improvements on our own – we do not need advice from foreigners.

(ii) Shiva temples – flowers are on sale for devotees who take them inside and offer to the priest, who puts them on Shiva-linga. But they become too much and have to be discarded from time to time. What a waste? Can we not collect money instead which can be used for some charitable purpose?

(iii) There is awareness of deafness among children – early diagnosis is desirable and specialist doctors are available

(iv)There was increased awareness that Hindus must register and VOTE on polling day. There have been many problems with voter registration as this work has been given to private companies.

(v) People are eager to have lectures / presentations by Godbole but would not tell in advance timings that suit them. I had one request from a branch of Rotary Club in Pune, but it was made 7 hours before I was due to fly from London.

(vi) When I was in Pune, people sent me E Mails instead of using the phone.

1.9 China: Kunming terrorist attack.      On 15 March 2014 Sandhya Jain of New Delhi sent us the following E Mail.    http://www.vijayvaani.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?aid=3137

R Hariharan   Indians who have been facing terrorist attacks for decades will condemn the dastardly attack at Kunming railway station in the early hours on March 2 that took 29 innocent lives. Over 100 people were reported injured in the attack. The masked terrorists wielding fruit knives struck wildly at the people crowding the station. Xinhua reported that a gang of eight (some reports said five) that “appeared to be expert at hacking people” took part in the attack.

Hariharan should speak for himself.

1.10 Whistleblowers pay a heavy price even if they win

On 18 April 2014 Denis Campbell health correspondent of Guardian reported on p25

Legal victory for doctor who aired safety fears

A whistleblowing heart doctor who sounded the alarm about poor care and patient deaths at his own hospital has won a major legal victory against his NHS employers, whose  attempts to pursue ultimately unsubstantiated allegations against him cost £6m of public money.

An employment tribunal has ruled that Dr Raj Mattu was unfairly dismissed by the Walsgrave hospital in Coventry, and suffered a series of "detriments" after he spoke out about what he saw as dangerous conditions, including too many patients' beds being squeezed together to help relieve overcrowding.

Mattu was sacked by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in 2010, nine years after he first aired his concerns publicly about what he said was dangerous post-operative care. He highlighted a series of worries about patient safety, including the cases of two patients who died in crowded bays.

He voiced alarm at the hospital's "five- in-four" policy, under which - to save money - an extra fifth bed was placed in a bay intended for only four patients. The Commission for Health Improvement, the then NHS watchdog, condemned the practice and criticised the hospital, which it said had a much higher death rate than should have been expected.

An employment tribunal sitting in Birmingham under Judge Hughes ruled this week that 54-year-old Mattu had been unfairly dismissed and would receive compensation, which will be decided later. It described him as blameless, saying: "The claimant did not cause or contribute to his dismissal."

The trust ran up over £6m in legal fees in its long quest against Mattu, which he said was a campaign of vilification designed to discredit him for no reason. The General Medical Council decided not to proceed to an inquiry after looking into more than 200 allegations the trust made against him.

It also hired private detectives to investigate the cardiologist and a public relations agency to handle media interest in the long-running case, which saw Mattu receive significant support from his medical colleagues.

Mattu had been "vilified, bullied and harassed out of a job he loved", the doctor's lawyer claimed. "This has been a David v Goliath legal battle, which I am delighted to have won for my client," said solicitor Stephen Moore.

"This case has brought to light the appalling way whistleblowers are still being treated and raises important and wider issues that should be addressed."

Our comment – would you gamble with your career at the age of 54?

1.11 Domestic violence in Britain – unreported truth

1.11.1 On 20 November 2012 Daily Mail reported a ghastly case

A controlling lover who brutally stabbed his girlfriend 29 times was jailed today. Myles Williams, 19, was jailed for a minimum of 28 years at the Old Bailey after he was found guilty in September of killing Kirsty Treloar, 20, in front of their baby daughter and wounding the young mother's brother and sister. She was killed just three weeks after giving birth to the couple's baby, who was showered with her blood. Williams stabbed her for being a 'white bitch' who was taking him for a fool.

Sentencing Williams, Judge Nicholas Cooke said: 'Beyond a shadow of a doubt, you represent an exceptional danger to any future female partners,' He added: 'Exceptionally, this was a fatal attack in the presence of a 26-day-old child. 'That child has been left fatherless and motherless, and some time in her life she will discover that her father killed her mother. 'That baby was left covered in blood, probably her mother’s - a terrible thing.'

1.11.2 Through Change.org we received following request -

Seven women were killed through male violence in the first three days of 2012. Perhaps it was because one of them, 20 year old Kirsty Treloar, lived in my area, (Hackney, East London) or because the shooting of three women on New Years Day was widely covered in the news, or maybe because it was the beginning of the year, I started counting. Since then, I’ve counted 236 women killed through suspected male violence against women. This week sees the world mark the International Day to End Violence Against Women and yet so often many incidences of violence are ignored.

I believe the Government should be doing everything it can to understand and prevent violence against women. That's why I've started a petition on Change.org calling on the Home Office to record and publish the number of women killed by men each year.

Not all these murders count as domestic violence. Home Secretary Theresa May just introduced Clare's Law for women to be able to check the police records of their partners after a public campaign. This shows the Government wants to do more to tackle violence against women. Now we need to get them to tackle the root causes, starting with recording the incidences of these types of crimes. Please sign my petition and join the campaign -  Karen Ingala Smith

1.12 Lives of British women 100 years ago.

During COUNTDOWN programme on ITV Kate Adie famous BBC reporter showed her new wonderful book entitled Fighting on the Home front. This relates to pitiable position of women in British Society at the outbreak of World War I in 1914

Or https://www.hodder.co.uk/books/detail.page?isbn=9781444759679

Kate remarked “I would not wish that I was alive during those days.” So pitiable was the condition of British women. She quotes one doctor who was disgusted for not being able to operate on a female patient because her husband would not consent to a life saving operation.

1.13 Cruelty to children in Britain

Not a day passes without hearing about some appalling cruelty to Children. Let us take just 2 cases.

1.13.1 Peter Connelly (also known as "Baby P") was a 17-month-old English boy who died in London after suffering more than fifty injuries over an eight-month period, during which he was repeatedly seen by Haringey Children's services and NHS health professionals. Baby P's real first name was revealed as "Peter" on the conclusion of a subsequent trial of Peter's mother's boyfriend on a charge of raping a two-year-old.

The case caused shock and concern among the public and in Parliament, partly because of the magnitude of Peter's injuries, and partly because Peter had lived in the London Borough of Haringey, North London, under the same child care authorities that had already failed ten years earlier in the case of Victoria Climbié. That had led to a public enquiry which resulted in measures being put in place in an effort to prevent similar cases happening.

Peter's mother Tracey Connelly, her boyfriend Steven Barker, and Jason Owen (later revealed to be the brother of Barker) were all convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child, the mother having pleaded guilty to the charge. A court order issued by the High Court in England had prevented the publication of the identity of Baby P; this was lifted on 1 May 2009 by Mr Justice Coleridge. An order sought by Haringey Council to stop publication of the identities of his mother and her boyfriend was granted, but expired on 10 August 2009.

The child protection services of Haringey and other agencies were widely criticised. Following the conviction, three inquiries and a nationwide review of social service care were launched, and the Head of Children's Services at Haringey (Ms Shoesmith) was removed by direction of the government minister Ed Balls. Another nationwide review was conducted by Lord Laming into his own recommendations concerning Victoria Climbié's killing in 2000.

Aftermath

* Ms Sharon Shoesmith who was in charge of Social services was dismissed, but won her appeal for unfair dismissal. She has been paid a six figure sum compensation. She never showed any remorse or sorrow,

* The mother Tracy Connelly was released from jail on 1 November 2013. She will be given a new identity.

* Jason Owen becomes Muslim to protect himself from attacks from other inmates and carries Koran.

Poor baby P – what a life!

1.13.2 Case of four year old Daniel Pelka

On Friday 21 March 2013 The Guardian reported a tragic case of Daniel Pelka.

Office for standards in education, children’s services and skills (Ofsted) report found that caseloads for social workers are too high following fatal abuse of four-year-old Daniel Pelka. Coventry city council was investigated after Daniel Pelka was killed by his mother and stepfather.

Children's services at a council that came under fire over the death of a four-year-old boy beaten to death by his mother and stepfather have been branded inadequate by Ofsted. Daniel Pelka died of a head injury after a campaign of abuse by his mother, Magdelena Luczak, and his stepfather, former soldier Mariusz Krezolek, (both Polish) both of whom were jailed for a minimum of 30 years for his murder following a trial last year. Coventry city council has come under some scrutiny since the death in March 2012.

A report published on Friday by Ofsted judged children's services to be "inadequate overall". The report comes after a three-week inspection by Ofsted earlier this year. Although social work teams have been increased, a dramatic increase in workloads – 46% over the last two years – mean that caseloads remain too high."

By the end of February 2014, social workers in Coventry were working with 4,529 children in the city – up from 3,085 in March 2013, the council said. George Duggins, the council's cabinet member for children and young people, promised a "rapid improvement in services" in light of the disappointing inspection.

An additional £5.6m is being invested in the service, which will be spent mainly on creating more social work teams to deal with the huge increase of referrals, he said, adding: "There is no hiding from the fact that the report's overall findings are disappointing, but many of the problems we face, particularly in the front line of children's social care, is down to the fact of the unprecedented volume of work, which continues to increase.

"As the Ofsted report reflects, the findings are not a verdict on the staff, who are working extremely hard in the face of ever-increasing workloads, and their passion, commitment and dedication cannot be questioned.

The Guardian Tuesday 17 September 2013

Daniel Pelka: Professionals failed 'invisible' murdered boy, report says

Review accuses school of poor safeguarding system and says social workers accepted parental version of events

Four-year-old Daniel Pelka’s voice was never heard throughout his ordeal, the review said.

Teachers, health professionals, social workers and police officers treated four-year-old Daniel Pelka as if he was invisible, failing to prevent his mother and stepfather from murdering him after a campaign of torture and starvation, an independent report has found. A serious case review published on Tuesday could find no record of any conversation professionals had with Daniel about his home life, his feelings or his relationships with his mother and her male partners.

Daniel's first language was Polish and the report suggested that this could have been a problem. It said: "Of particular note was that without English as his first language and because of his lack of confidence Daniel's voice was not heard throughout this case."

At times, the review concluded, Daniel appeared to have been "invisible" against the backdrop of his mother's controlling behaviour. Professionals failed to act on "what they saw in front of them" but accepted parental versions of events.

The report said Daniel's "traumatic abusive experiences" during the last six months of his life were "shocking", adding: "He must have felt utterly alone and worthless for much of that time, being the subject of his mother and stepfather's anger and rejection. At times he was treated as inhuman, and the level of helplessness he must have felt in such a terrifying environment would have been overwhelming. The extent of his abuse, however, went undiscovered and unknown to professionals at the time."

During a harrowing trial a jury heard that Daniel looked like a concentration camp victim when he died in March 2012. The court was told that he was subjected to torture including having his head held under water until he passed out and being force-fed salt. He was kept locked in a filthy box room at home in Coventry and was systematically denied food before dying after receiving a blow to his head.

The review team also accused Daniel's school of having a "dysfunctional" approach to children's safeguarding issues, highlighting that teachers had noticed injuries to his face and had locked away pupils' lunch boxes to stop him stealing food, but had not taken effective action to help him. Health professionals and social workers had been too quick to accept that injuries needing hospital treatment including a broken arm and a cut over the eye were the result of accidents – though it also said they were under pressure because of high workloads and understaffing. The report criticised a community paediatrician who saw Daniel a month before he was murdered for putting his weight loss down to worms rather than possible child abuse.

In addition it emerged in the report that police attended Daniel's "chaotic" household almost 30 times in response to reports of domestic abuse in the six years before his death and it suggested officers could have done more to make sure he was being well treated. "In many respects the response by the police was not child-centred," the report said.

On Daniel's school, Little Heath primary, the report said staff did not pass on concerns to police or council child protection officials when the boy came to school with bruises and other marks on him. The school did not appear to link the injuries to his obvious hunger. "The system within the school to respond to safeguarding concerns was therefore dysfunctional at this time," the report concluded.

The author of the serious case review report, Ron Lock, said: "If professionals had used more inquiring minds and been more focused in their intentions to address concerns, it's likely that Daniel would have been better protected from the people who killed him.”Peter Wanless, chief executive officer of the NSPCC, said: "Too often people failed to look at Daniel like they would their own child." Maggie Atkinson, the Children's Commissioner for England said: "Far too many opportunities to intervene to stop the abuse Daniel experienced during his short life were missed by those around him who had a duty to protect him."

Beatrix Campbell wrote for The Guardian (17 September 2013)                                              From Jasmine Beckford to Daniel Pelka: a history of chaos and calumny.  Almost three decades lie between the deaths of four-year-old Daniel Pelka and four-year-old Jasmine Beckford. Both suffered cruelty, beatings, and starvation. Both were, in effect, tortured to death. In those three decades there has been a revolution in our awareness of what adults can do to children. And a counter-revolution. In all the blaming and bleating that has accompanied the publication this week of Coventry's serious case review into Daniel Pelka's life and death misses this vital context. The similarities in the suffering of these two children should remind us of the calumny and chaos that has defined the history of childhood adversity in Britain.

Then follows a review of attitudes. Whom do you believe? Professionals or Parents? After each such case a serious case review takes place ……… Subsequent inquiries merely cemented what has come to be known as a compliance culture: checklists and targets are perceived not as protecting children but providing cover for wary professionals. Although they were commanded to work together, the purpose of co-operation was less obvious, and less likely to happen. Children might be assessed, but that didn't mean they would be protected.

Our comments – this is the situation in Britain in 2014. What was it in 1860 when Britain gained control of whole of India and our leaders were praising Queen Victoria to the hilt!

National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) was founded in 1884 in London, was granted a Royal Charter in 1895 and Queen Victoria became a patron. One can understand cruelty to children in Victorian Britain, as there was poverty, not enough food. Emanuel Shinwell the veteran Labour politician was asked, “What do you remember of your childhood?” He said – Hunger. We were always hungry. But what is the excuse for cruelty to children today? Parents who cannot look after their children can offer them for adoption.

In case of Daniel the neglect by school teachers is inexcusable. When being trained as a teacher Godbole was taught to look for signs of cruelty to children. The symptoms are very easy to notice. During lunch breaks how could teachers not notice that Daniel was not given enough food?

1.14 Meat processing plant next to Gurudwara in Bradford                                              Guru Govind Singh Gurdwara, Bradford informed us -  On Tuesday 13 August 2013 Bradford Council approved the planning application by Pakeezah Supermarket to open a meat processing plant directly behind Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara (Sikh Temple), off Leeds Road, Bradford. 1.15 Mischievous British

On 14 August 2009 we received a disturbing E Mail.

Parents‘ anger at Khalistan project - fury over religious education homework

Angry parents have expressed their shock after schoolchildren were asked to create an imaginary Sikh state of Khalistan as part of a homework project.

In the 1980s, India was rocked by a bloody separatist movement that demanded a homeland for Sikhs. The controversial subject incensed one mother so much she pulled her son from the assignment given to a religious education (RE) class at Valentines High School in Ilford last month. The primary schoolteacher, who complained to the school’s RE co-coordinator, told Eastern Eye: “I called up the school to say my son won’t be doing this homework. “ During my discussion, I was told that the school will not include this from the new term in September. A number of other Asian parents I spoke to were equally furious.

The 13-year-old Year 8 students were asked to design a flag for the fictional state, draw up its laws and political boundaries as part of their lesson on Sikhism.
Khalistan was a movement for an independent Sikh state that led to the violent incident of Operation Blue Star at Golden Temple in 1984, when soldiers stormed the Sikh holy shrine to capture suspected terrorists there. It led to the assassination of India’s Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and a cycle of violence where thousands of Sikhs were brutally murdered.

Activist group Hindu Human Rights expressed fears that projects like these could portray a very “one-sided” view of religion. A spokesperson said: “We need more debates and seminars to ensure there is a wider understanding on such subjects. There has been a growing trend to reject that Sikhism was actually born out of the Hindu religion.
“We must ensure there is no recreation or whitewashing of history.”

Sikh groups were divided on the school’s decision. “Clearly this is a peculiar choice for such a project, mixing a political subject with that of religion,” the Network of Sikh Organisations said. “There may however be opportunity in so far as research into the ecumenical nature of Sikhism in an ‘imaginary state’. This would equate to freedom, equality and justice for all citizens.”
Jagtar Singh, spokesperson for Sikh Federation UK, added: “We do not separate religion and politics in the Sikh faith. Discussing politics within religious education must be encouraged because all people of faith live in the real world. Emotive subjects like this, as long as they are carefully handled, should not be a no-no.”

Valentines High School said that it could not comment until the school reopens next month. The Department for Children, Schools and Families said RE syllabuses are not prescribed by the state as part of the national curriculum, but every parent has the right to withdraw their child from all or any part of religious education studies.

On Friday, 9 August 2009 Dr Rami Ranger, Chairman of British Sikh Association  <rami@sunmark.co.uk> wrote: Sikhs were created to defend the unity, integrity and the basic human rights of every Indian and not to break her up. When Sikh Gurus never claimed a separate kingdom for themselves, then why should their followers demand a kingdom for themselves? Are these self-appointed leaders greater visionaries?

Five days later we received following disturbing information from Ramibhaiya                       Unfortunately Dr Ranger, many young Sikhs are coming under the influence of Khalistani propaganda. You can see them expressing their hatred against Hindus and India on many Sikh forums. On one of their most popular Sikh sites ‘Sikh Sangat’ they recently put up a picture of Lord Rama having sex with his mother but took it down not because it offended Hindus but because their site is also visited by very young Sikhs as well. You can check the many disgusting videos they make of Hindu gods and goddesses on Youtube. I’ve seen many young Sikhs wearing t-shirts saying ‘Don’t forget 1984’ or have pictures of Bhindrawale and AK-47s etc. The Khalistanis are unfortunately influencing many impressionable young Sikhs with their false propaganda and lies which will encourage more division of Sikhs and Hindus in the future if not taken seriously now.”

Anjan Vekaria of Park Royal, London replied      E-Mail: akv@vascroft.com

Dear Ramibhaiya I fully and whole heatedly agree with you, it is unfortunate that there so called leaders or religious gurus for their personal glorification and agenda are confusing the youth. These elements are danger to our society, peace and harmony. It is a shame that our intelligent youths' talents, vigour, energy, etc, are manipulated by inhumane leaders.

Back in India Hindus and Sikhs have lived as one family members, ate same food, celebrated all festivals together, share common culture, heritage, language, etc. We all have to be vigilant and alert and must work hard to defuse such hatred, separation, enmity.  Let us all united on this with one voice. 3. BEHAVIOUR OF CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS TODAY

3.1 The Christians

Another ghastly reminder of brutality of Catholics towards unmarried women

Yahoo news Thursday, Jun 5, 2014

Amnesty urges Ireland to launch probe into mass children's grave

Amnesty International's Europe and Central Asia director, John Dalhuisen, speaks at a press conference to present Amnesty's annual human rights report in Moscow, on May 23, 2012. An urgent investigation must be launched into revelations that almost 800 babies and children were buried in a mass grave in Ireland near a home for unmarried mothers run by nuns, Amnesty said on Thursday.

"This shocking case needs immediate attention and answers from the Irish government," said John Dalhuisen, "A thorough investigation must be carried out into how these children died and if ill-treatment, neglect or other human rights abuses factored into their deaths."

Death records suggest 796 children, from newborns to eight-year-olds, were deposited in a grave near a Catholic-run home in Tuam, County Galway, during the 35 years it operated from 1925 to 1961.

The government announced it was examining the "best means" to address the "deeply disturbing" revelations. The septic tank, full to the brim with bones, was discovered in 1975 by locals when concrete slabs covering the tank broke up. Until now, locals believed the bones mainly stemmed from the Great Irish famine of the 1840s when hundreds of thousands perished. St Mary's, run by the Bons Secours Sisters, was one of several such 'mother and baby' homes in early 20th century Ireland. Amnesty urged the government to look into the actions of all of these institutions.

"As disturbing as the 'Tuam babies' case is, it must not be viewed in isolation," said Colm O'Gorman, Executive Director, Amnesty International Ireland. "The Irish authorities must look into possible allegations of ill-treatment of women and children in other so-called 'mother and baby homes' and other institutions run by the state or religious authorities."

Thousands of unmarried pregnant women -- labelled at the time as 'fallen women' -- were sent to the homes to have their babies. They were ostracised by the conservative Catholic society and were often forced to hand over their children for adoption. The recently discovered death records for St Mary's show that 796 children died from malnutrition and infectious diseases, such as measles and TB.

Amnesty called the Irish government's response to previous claims as "minimalist" and urged it to "deal comprehensively with its past". "The Irish Government must not view this and other cases as merely historic and beyond its human rights obligations," said Dalhuisen.

The rights group explained that if the home closed in 1961, it is possible that some of the deaths occurred at a time when the European Convention on Human Rights was in force.

Here are some reactions

“So handy that we have the Catholic Church to blame for society's failings! I lived through some of the period in question and EVERYBODY knew. And NOBODY cared. Indeed, these homes were used as threats so conditions were widely known and indeed endorsed by all levels in society.”

“The Catholic church have proven they are not competent to investigate criminality within their own ranks during the child abuse scandals. This one needs to be investigated and where necessary charges brought against surviving perpetrators. As Amnesty suggests, it is unlikely that this is a one off.

“The Catholic Church is responsible for all this and they must come clean and sort it all out. At the same time it’s about time the Catholic Church allowed their priests to marry as God made man and woman and for them to marry.”

“Nuns are well-known for their cruelty in children's homes, so this does not surprise me at all. I went to a Catholic school run by nuns, truly horrible women, which is one reason I later became an atheist! These children were treated like vermin and disposed of like vermin, too sad for words!

“It is the most evil religion in the world where children have been abused for centuries and the Pope is still head of this monster organisation, and the Queen and Archbishop insult Christians by meeting this Man of Sin.”

“Aside from the grotesque horror of these deaths, how is it remotely possible for these fake Christians to pitch these poor dead bodies into a cess-pit? It makes the Nazis look good. Truly disgusting and any right thinking person would have nothing to do with this Religious dogma.”

3.2 The Muslims  The practice of Female genital Mutilation (FGM)

3.2.1 Change.org achieves results. On 6 February 2014 we received following message from 17 year old Fahma Mohamed

This summer 24,000 young girls in the UK are at risk. Some will be sent away, others will be at risk in their own homes. Some can be as young as five. It's known as the 'cutting season' and although it is illegal in the UK, it is happening to girls across the country.

I'm talking about female genital mutilation (FGM). You wouldn't think it's something people in Britain would have to worry about today - but that's the problem. People don't talk about it; doctors don't check for it, teachers don't teach it. But we know it happens to thousands of British girls each year.

The Government made FGM illegal but it's not enough. We have to prevent girls being cut by creating awareness in schools. That's why I’ve started a petition calling for Education Secretary Michael Gove to get schools to teach about FGM before the summer holidays.

Female genital mutilation is child abuse. It forces girls into a future of pain from the moment they are cut. The pain doesn’t go. It’s a traumatic experience they have to live with every single day, physically and emotionally.

We need to break this cycle now. And we can do this through schools. My classmates and I campaigned for our school to do more on FGM. Now all the girls at school know the risks of FGM and feel able to talk about it. But this is one school. We need this to happen at every school in the country - so that no girl is missed.

If every head-teacher was given the information they need to talk about FGM to students and parents we could reach every girl who is at risk before the holidays and convince families not to send their daughters to be cut. We could put an end to the silence around FGM in this country.

Please sign my petition, launched this week with the Guardian, to end the silence around FGM. We need to act now before the holidays begin and it happens again.

Then came the following news

3.2.2 This week, something incredible happened.

Fahma Mohamed won her campaign for action from the Education Secretary, Michael Gove, with the backing of 235,000 Change.org users. Here's how the campaign happened, all in less than three weeks. February 6th: Fahma launches her campaign calling on Michael Gove to write to all schools to urge them to protect young girls against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). February 7th: 100,000 people had joined Fahma's campaign. Then 150,000. Then 200,000. February 13th: Michael Gove is asked by Fahma's local MP during Education Questions in Parliament to meet Fahma and discuss her campaign. He agrees.

February 18th: UN General Ban Ki-moon describes Fahma's campaign as "deeply inspiring" and praises her "desire to enlist head-teachers and reach every girl at risk of FGM." He said further, “It has been deeply inspiring for me to hear that a 17-year-old has attracted well over 200,000 signatures to her petition demanding action to end FGM. February 23rd: Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani school girl who was shot for standing up for girls' right to education, voices her support for the campaign. She describes Fahma as her sister and says "I am at her side and I want her to be listened to as I was.”February 25th: VICTORY!

Michael Gove agrees to write to primary and secondary schools to support them in tackling female genital mutilation.

It's been incredible to see the power of a campaign led by a schoolgirl from Bristol and her classmates. Fahma's passion for the issue inspired nearly a quarter of a million signatures, the backing of a national newspaper and support of world leaders to convince the Education Minister to change his mind.

3.2.3 FGM in USA?     On 21 May Fahma Mohamed sent us another appeal. She said: -      Not all countries have come as far as U.K. In the United States, the government doesn’t even know how widespread FGM is there - but I’m supporting a campaign to change that and I need your help.

Jaha Dukureh lives in Atlanta. When she was very young, she was put through FGM in Gambia. She says "It took away a part of my femininity, my ownership to my body. Some girls, including my half-sister who died from complications from being cut, even lose their lives." FGM is illegal in the US, just like here, but Jaha says she knows girls are taken abroad to be cut. She says part of the problem in the US is the lack of awareness and up-to-date statistics on how many girls go through FGM each year.

Jaha is incredibly brave for speaking out. She needs to show President Obama that there is a worldwide movement of people looking to him to take action to end the horror of FGM in the US. Ordinary people like us really can make a difference. When we really believe in something, when we know something is wrong, we have a moral duty to speak out and do whatever we can to make change. That’s why I’m writing to you.

Please stand with Jaha and sign her petition calling for the US government to start to track how many girls are at risk of FGM in the US.

3.2.4 On 2 January 2014 Evening Standard reported on page 18

Islamic leaders must set FGM example for other religions'

RELIGIOUS leaders in the UK must do more to crack down on female genital mutilation, a leading campaigner has warned. Leyla Hussein, from the charity Daughters of Eve, said that although FGM is not only a Muslim issue, Islamic leaders must condemn it and set an example for other religions to follow.

Ms Hussein, a survivor of FGM who is originally from Somalia, became a face of the campaign against the practice after making a documentary for Channel 4 about it. She said that after The Cruel Cut was broadcast, some viewers had dismissed it as a "Muslim issue". But in a blog published on the Huffington Post she pointed out: "FGM is practised within all religions. To be more specific, it's practised by Christians, Muslims, Jews, animists and non-believers.  "FGM precedes all major religions as it was a practice that first started in Pharaonic Egypt."  (Jews do not practice FGM. They only circumcise males which means removing foreskin of penis)

Ms Hussein said that FGM depends on tradition rather than religion, and in Niger 55 per cent of Christians are affected by FGM, compared with two per cent of Muslims. It involves cutting off a girl's external genitals, often including her clitoris, and sewing her vagina shut. It can lead to major health problems including infections, haemorrhaging and can be fatal in childbirth. (Why has  Pope not raised his voice against this practice?)

Mr Hussein said: "I still hear religious scholars say, 'this is a women's issue' just like some viewers said, 'this is a Muslim issue'. It's neither. It's a human rights issue, a violence against women issue and a child protection issue. It's everyone's issue." She said that some religious scholars do tackle the problem, pointing to a project organised by the Faith Against FGM conference where prominent Islamic figures publicly condemned the practice alongside their Christian peers. And, in Iraqi Kurdistan, she said Islamic scholars have placed a fatwa on FGM.                                                                                                    She added: "Although FGM is not exclusively a Muslim issue, I am hoping Islamic leaders in the UK will think about doing the same.”It's time for them to set an example for other religions that need to take responsibility for ending FGM and ending violence against women."

3.2.5 FGM parents 'are having girls cut at younger age       (Evening Standard 27 May 2014 p2)       Martin Bentham, Home Affairs Editor wrote -                                                                                       GROWING numbers of babies and toddlers are suffering female genital mutilation as parents adopt new tactics to avoid detection, the country's leading children's charity warned today. The NSPCC said it believed that parents were having girls cut at a younger age after getting "smart" to the fact that the authorities were focusing on the threat faced by older children. It said it had received reports from health staff of one and two-year-olds and "even babies" being victims. The charity added that there was no doubt that FGM remained an "ongoing practice" in this country and that the number of cases uncovered so far was the "tip of the iceberg".

The NSPCC revealed that it has received 215 calls to an FGM helpline that it set up last June, of which 96 have led to referrals to police. The calls include one from a social worker concerned about a girl who had been taken for an unplanned holiday to Sudan and had returned wearing a nappy and complaining of severe abdominal pain. Another involved a girl who was absent from school for several months in Nigeria and returned with a "changed demeanour" and suffering from painful trips to the lavatory.

Although neither case has yet to result in a prosecution, the Met has welcomed the greater flow of information as it seeks to build a better picture about the way the crime is carried out. The NSPCC said it was concerned that the focus on the risk to schoolgirls was prompting some parents to take children for mutilation at a younger age.

John Cameron, the charity's head of child protection, said: "Families are starting to get smart about this. They are getting the message that all the agencies are focusing on children who are a bit older so people are now beginning to get children cut at a much younger age... I have heard from my health colleagues of very young children being cut, even babies."

The NSPCC says health visitors, nursery staff, child-minders and others should be advised to be alert to the risk of FGM. It also advocates teaching primary school pupils that their "private parts" should not be harmed by others.

It appeals to anyone with concerns that a child might be a potential victim of FGM, or anyone seeking advice about the problem, to contact its free helpline on 0800 028 3550.

Our comment – For nearly 200 years the French ruled over large parts of Africa where FGM is practiced today. How come they did nothing to stamp out this evil practice?

3.3 Misuse of Burqa

Some Muslim women insist on wearing Burqa as their religious right but never talk about its abuses. Here is one example.                                                                                                                                             Acid attack using Burqa – Yahoo news Monday 24 March 2014

Naomi Oni, who was scarred for life in an acid attack, has accused Met Police of incompetence over the investigation. She was attacked with acid and has accused Scotland Yard of incompetence, saying police initially claimed she had poured it over herself. Naomi Oni, a Victoria's Secret shop assistant, was left scarred for life after suffering serious burns on her face and chest in the incident in Dagenham, east London, in 2012.

Her former friend, Mary Konya, 22, who disguised herself in a Muslim veil before throwing the sulphuric acid, was jailed for 12 years last week.

Ms Oni said to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme "I even got told that they (Metropolitan Police) watched the CCTV footage and they saw no-one following me," she said. "We've all seen the CCTV footage. There was a person in a veil following me. "Why was this not found in the beginning? Nobody has answers to tell me."

The Police said "The CCTV evidence took some time to collate and analyse but then clearly showed a veiled suspect trailing the victim before the attack. ”Konye was arrested as the investigation progressed."

In a victim impact statement read out to the court last week, Ms Oni said she was now "paranoid and scared" about being outdoors alone and admitted having suicidal thoughts. It was now a "battle to get by each day" after being permanently disfigured, she added.

She has suffered permanent scars to her leg, chest, stomach and arms and was almost blinded in one eye. She faces further reconstructive surgery and must wear a silicon face mask which makes it difficult to breathe, the court heard.

3.4 Lee Rigby murder: Couple jailed for glorification videos

BBC News 15 March 2014

A married couple have been jailed for posting videos on YouTube glorifying Fusilier Lee Rigby's murder. Royal Barnes, 23, of Hackney, east London, recorded and uploaded three videos shortly after the murder in Woolwich, south-east London, last May (22 May 2013).

Royal Barnes and his wife Rebekah Dawson posted three videos on YouTube. In one of the videos, he hailed the murder as a "brilliant day". At the Old Bailey, the Muslim couple were both jailed - Barnes for five years and four months, while Rebekah Dawson, 22, was sentenced to 20 months.

'Offensive in the extreme'     Barnes had already pleaded guilty to three counts of disseminating a terrorist publication and one of inciting murder, while Dawson, who had insisted on wearing a veil in court, had previously admitted disseminating a terrorist publication.

Judge Brian Barker QC told them the videos they made were "offensive in the extreme". He said the couple showed "a total and continuing disregard" for how their actions might affect the family of the soldier, the people who witnessed his murder and the British public.

Royal Barnes was filmed by his wife mocking tributes to the murdered soldier. In one of the videos, Barnes laughed as he drove past floral tributes for Fusilier Rigby. One video, made on the day of the murder, featured graphic images of a man holding a decapitated head.  Another video showed Dawson ranting about how soldiers would be killed in London. Barnes, who associated with one of Fusilier Rigby's murderers Michael Adebowale, also posted on Facebook the offer of a reward for avenging the rape of an Iraqi woman.

The post, created on 12 June 2013, stated: "Any1 who kills an invading soldier in Muslim land I will give them a Vauxhall Astra 3door and money (French British American any kaffir soldier take ur pick)." None of his 500 friends replied to the request.

'Breathtaking stupidity'

Mitigating for Barnes, Naeem Mian said: "There are no ifs, no buts, no maybes; Mr Barnes makes it absolutely clear that these are idiotic acts borne out of breathtaking stupidity."

He said his client was vulnerable to coming under bad influences, having been taken into care at the age of eight and prevented from attending his mother's funeral after she died in custody.

Dawson's lawyer Susan Meek said her client, who had been studying at university, also came under the influence of others.

Fusilier Lee Rigby was murdered in Woolwich, south London, in May 2013. Outside court, Mari Reid, of the Crown Prosecution Service's Counter Terrorism Division, said the couple had sought to take advantage of Fusilier Rigby's murder. "These were not throwaway comments from a thoughtless individual, but the hardened beliefs of an extremist.”We pride ourselves in Britain on allowing the right to free speech to flourish. But the vile views posted online by Royal Barnes and Rebekah Dawson justified and glorified terrorist attacks, and tried to foster hatred in our communities."

Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Adebowale, 22, were jailed for life last month for murdering Fusilier Rigby. The Muslim converts ran the soldier down in a car before hacking him to death with a meat cleaver and knives.

(Before sentencing, Judge Brian Barker QC asked Dawson's lawyer to confirm the defendant was the woman in the dock in the full veil. Earlier this year, Dawson admitted an unrelated charge of witness intimidation, after she waived her right to give evidence in her defence, arguing it was against her religious views to remove her veil. The court heard the first of the three videos was made on the day Rigby was murdered. It was edited with graphic images of a man holding a decapitated head, a scene of the Woolwich murder and the Twin Towers, and posted on YouTube the following day. The second video contained the same edited images. In a follow-up, Barnes mocked the outpouring of public grief.)
