1.2 Child sex abuse in Britain – saga continues.

Our friend Come Carpenter sent us the following E Mail on 16 March 2015

1.2.1 UK Home Minister,”Pedophilia in Britain ‘woven into the fabric of society’ –What about a film, BBC?

http://rt.com/uk/240777-uk-sex-children-may/     Published March 14 2015

As the UK has launched a new-judge led inquiry panel to investigate a pedophile ring operated in 1980s, the Home Secretary warns the allegations are just a “tip of an iceberg” and the problem is “woven, covertly, into the fabric of our society.”

Following a spate of allegations concerning the abuse of children by adults, many of whom abused their positions of power and status, Home Secretary Theresa May said Britons still do not appreciate the “true scale of that abuse.” Writing in the Telegraph, May warned that the investigation into predators of children will “lead into our schools and hospitals, our churches, our youth clubs and many other institutions that should have been places of safety…”

Following Thursday’s announcement of a four-person panel to investigate the criminal activities against minors, May said Justice Lowell Goddard would be empowered to “compel witnesses and the removal of any cut-off date from the Terms of Reference” allowing Goddard to track the evidence “wherever it takes her.”

The original inquiry, which was delayed after two chairs were forced to stand down, was set up to investigate allegations of a pedophile sex ring made by the now deceased Conservative MP Geoffrey Dickens, operating in Westminster during the 1980s.

May said she had personally met young survivors and understood that their lives would be so much harder due to the “pain and distrust that had become a part of them.” May wrote: “In my discussions with older victims and survivors and their representatives, I began to realize how abuse is woven, covertly, into the fabric of our society.”

She then relayed a meeting she had with one of the victims of past abuse, who told her: “Get this inquiry right and it will be like a stick of Blackpool rock. You will see abuse going through every level of society.”

“I fear she is right. I have said before and I shall say again, that what we have seen so far is only the tip of the iceberg,” May said. Aside from public institutions, the probe may also lead to the highest levels of British society.

Following allegations that British celebrity and former BBC presenter Jimmy Savile had violated hundreds of children and adults over the span of his lengthy career ("Giving Victims a Voice" organization reported that over 400 people had filed complaints against Savile), allegations of a Westminster pedophile ring possibly involving many well-known MPs have surfaced.

In July 2014 Peter Mckelvie, a whistleblower who kicked off UK police pedophile probe Operation Fernbridge, disclosed a list compiled by police of current and former politicians suspected of participating in the child sex abuse. He revealed that as many as 40 British MPs and peers either knew about or took part in the Westminster “pedophile ring.” Mckelvie, who spent more than 20 years compiling evidence of alleged child abuse by people in authority claimed there was enough evidence to arrest at least one senior politician, the Daily Telegraph reported in July 2014.

“I truly believe it represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity and that once its work is done, we will never look at society in the same way again,” May wrote.

The Home Secretary said: “Where there is evidence a person has abused their position – no matter how high or how low that position – it will be passed to the police to investigate. So if there has been a cover-up, we will uncover it.”

1.2.2  Sky News - Three Judges Fired For Watching Porn at Work                                    Tuesday March 2015

Three judges have been fired for allegedly viewing pornography at work - a fourth would also have been sacked but resigned first.

A spokesperson for the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office confirmed that District Judge Timothy Bowles, Immigration Judge Warren Grant and Deputy District Judge and Recorder Peter Bullock have been removed from judicial office.

Their sacking follows an investigation into an allegation that they viewed pornographic material on judicial IT equipment in their offices.

The spokesman added that the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice were "satisfied that the material did not include images of children or any other illegal content".

Nevertheless, the body had "concluded that this was an inexcusable misuse of their judicial IT accounts and wholly unacceptable conduct for a judicial office holder".

A fourth judge, Recorder Andrew Maw, was also found to have viewed similar inappropriate material via his judicial IT account, the JCIO said, but resigned before the disciplinary process concluded.

The judges were not linked in any way.

Some Reactions

(a) Nearly 300,000 attempts were made to access porn websites from computers within the Houses of Parliament over the past year, official records have shown. The figure - which represents more than 800 attempts per day - was released by Palace of Westminster IT chiefs in response to a request under freedom of information

(2) Labour Councillor (North Lincolnshire) David Spooner - Convicted and jailed for 1 year for masturbating in front of 2 young children

(3) Tory Party General election candidate, Michael Powell - Convicted and jailed for 3 years for downloading hardcore child porn.

Its funny how they give the full names of them for watching normal porn at work BUT they won't reveal the names of the perverts in Westminster who not only view kiddie porn but actually join in and abuse kids.

** There is natural attraction between men and women. And it has presented problems for centuries. One can understand temptation / seduction / men behaving like Casanova. Even Manusmiriti states -

Matra Duhitra Swasra Va / Na viviktasano bhavet /

Balawan Indriyagramo / Vidwansampi karshti.

One should not sit alone in a room with door shut, with one’s mother, daughter or sister. The sexual temptation is too powerful and lead to falls of even the most learned scholars. So, avoid such meetings

But molesting children? Child sex abuse! That is disgusting. That is perverse.

1.2.3 Cyril Smith Saga

Cyril Smith was a well known Liberal Party MP for Rochdale, but he too was guilty of child sex-abuse. But at that time Labour Party Government of Jim Callahan depended on support of Liberal Party M.Ps (Lib-lab pact).

Police Officers covertly filmed Cyril Smith MP abusing young boys. It was stated on BBC programme Newsnight, when they presented their evidence to their superiors they were ordered by the Special Branch to drop the investigation or face prosecution under the Official Secrets Act.

All the evidence against Cyril Smith was destroyed. Officers are afraid to speak out even today!  The whole of our establishment is corrupt! It's worse than you can imagine

Guardian 18 March 2015 / reporter John Walker

Our Cyril Smith story came out in 1979. What followed was a 36-year cover-up

The child abuse revelation has been known to police, security services, national media and politicians for three decades. But they conspired to shield him. – and failed his victims

Finally the hunt is on to nail those responsible for aborting police inquiries into the child sex abuse allegations against the late Liberal MP Cyril Smith and other – as yet unnamed – establishment figures from the 1970s and 1980s. But his abuses have been covered up and ignored for over 35 years. Why should the victims feel that anything much has changed in recent days?

The Westminster child abuse ‘coverup’ : how much did MPs know?                                       I write as co-editor of the Rochdale Alternative Paper, which in May 1979 published a 2,000 word article, quoting in graphic detail from the testimonies of boys Smith had sexually abused a decade and a half earlier. The article was cleared legally by three prominent lawyers, on a pro-bono basis. They went through every word with a view to potential libel pitfalls. On legal advice we sought Smith’s comments prior to publication. We received none directly: only a bungled “gagging” writ, which failed to prevent publication.

We also wrote to the then leader of the Liberal party, David Steel, for his comments. We quoted the response of the Liberal party press office, dated 22 April 1979, in our newspaper: “It is not a very friendly gesture, publishing that, all he seems to have done is spanked a few bare bottoms.” So, Steel chose to look the other way, and within a decade was recommending Smith for a knighthood. Fleet Street looked away at the time too. There was not a national paper news-desk that did not have a copy of our well-sourced article. Smith threatened and blustered, and they all backed off.

Private Eye alone – via the fearless Paul Foot – covered the story.

Emboldened by his escape from justice, Smith possibly continued his abuse of pubescent boys for two decades. Smith had got away with it. He increased his parliamentary majority and, emboldened by his escape from justice, possibly continued his abuse of pubescent boys for two decades. Action in 1979 could have stopped him in his tracks, and prevented abuse and misery for future victims. Files on Smith’s child abuse were passed around police forces and the security services in the 1970s and 1980s – with no prosecutions. More covering up and inaction, instead of an end to his abuse.

The political honours scrutiny committee drew Margaret Thatcher’s attention to the Smith files in 1988, prior to her agreeing to a knighthood for him. She could have intervened, but chose to honour him – a further insult to his victims.

Following the emergence of the first Jimmy Savile revelations three years ago, Private Eye and I persuaded Channel 4’s Dispatches programme to run an episode on Smith. It did justice to the subject, but was allotted a ludicrous graveyard airing slot.

Further nudges led to the publication of the Danczuk book last year, serialised in the Daily Mail. This, for the first time, provoked widespread news coverage, at home and abroad.

Some victims had waited almost half a century for a public acknowledgement of their plight. Many people had known at least some of it for over three decades.

Earlier this week the BBC “discovered” the story for the first time. Lots of harrumphing, hand-wringing, outrage and angst poured over a story that it has sat on for decades.

And so, 36 years on, Smith has been justly demonised. But all those others, by their silence, blind-eye turning, indifference, obstruction and suppressions, continue to prosper. No wonder the victims feel let down – not just by Smith, but by a system and institutions that have conspired to protect and shield him.

Press Association / Sunday 8 March 2015

The Cabinet Office has denied attempting to cover up information about Whitehall’s knowledge of Cyril Smith’s child abuse at the time he was granted a knighthood in 1988. Documents have revealed that the then prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, was made aware of allegations involving the Liberal MP before he was given the honour.

The Mail on Sunday first requested the documents under the Freedom of Information Act in April last year but they were only released on Friday following an intervention by the information commissioner.

1.2.4  Eighty six year old Lord Janner of Braunstone a Labour Peer will not face prosecution because he has developed Alzheimer’s disease (loss of memory) though there is enough proof of him molesting children See Guardian Saturday 18 April 2015, p25

1.3 Morality of British Aristocracy

King Henry I holds the record as the British Monarch with the largest number of illegitimate children, with 21, Charles II was a worthy runner-up with 15.

(Saga Magazine, January 2015, p15)

But we should remember that Charles II sent 300 naval ships to America and claimed New Amsterdam (the Dutch colony) as British. He changed the name to New York after his brother Duke of York.

Sometime in Mid March 2014 it was revealed on the TV programme Chase that King George IV who died in 1830 had 17 illegitimate children, and David Cameron, the British PM is a son in one of lineages. Chaser was either Shaw Morn or Paul Simon

British aristocrats were expected to produce illegitimate children! It was a matter of pride.

1.4 Teen Gets 22 Years for Plot to Behead Soldier

Sky News - Friday 20 March 2015

A teenager has been jailed for 22 years for hatching a plot to behead a British soldier inspired by the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby.

Brusthom Ziamani, 19, stood impassively in the dock as the sentence was handed down at the Old Bailey. He was arrested in an east London street carrying a 12in knife and a hammer in a rucksack. He had earlier researched the location of army cadet bases in the south east of the capital. The court was told how he had earlier shown his ex-girlfriend weapons, described Fusilier Rigby's killer Michael Adebolajo as a "legend". He told his girlfriend he would "kill soldiers".

The defendant was radicalised after being befriended by members of a radical Muslim organisation which held meetings in London. Ziamani was found guilty last month of preparing an act of terrorism and was sentenced by Judge Timothy Pontius. Judge said: "A realistic and sensible assessment of the whole of the evidence leads inescapably to the conclusion that this defendant, had he not by sheer good fortune been spotted and stopped by the police on the street in east London, would have carried out the intention he had so graphically expressed to his ex-girlfriend just a few hours before."

The judge told Ziamani that he would have to serve at least two-thirds of his 22-year sentence before being eligible for parole. Earlier, in mitigation, Ziamani's lawyer, Naeem Mian, said his client was not an "entrenched extremist". Mr Mian said Ziamani was a young man who while destitute had been groomed by people who were "more sophisticated and mature" than him.

He said: "It is worrying to say the least that those who groomed him are able to groom and radicalise a young man in such a short period of time.”On any view it is a tragic case because this young man will spend a long time in custody after which he will inevitably be unemployable.  "His foolish, naive acts have resulted in him throwing his life away at his tender age.”He has nothing to look forward to now. The only glimmer of hope he has is the fact his parents - in particular his mother - has been to see him a number of times since his conviction. "They are still not comfortable with the fact he has converted to Islam. As you would expect of caring and loving parents, they have been to see him."

The trial was told how Ziamani had "reverted" to Islam only last year and was kicked out of home in Camberwell, south London, by his parents. Ziamani was born in London to Congolese parents. His mother worked as a nursery nurse and his father was a psychiatric nurse. He said he first became interested in Islam at the age of 15 through rap music and decided to convert again in the months before his arrests. He initially turned to his local mosque for support before he fell in with the Muslim group al-Muhajiroun - or ALM. The group gave him money, clothes and a place to stay.  He attended their talks in the basement of a halal sweet shop in Whitechapel and bought a black flag to take on their demonstrations. He said he was going "to rock it everywhere I go in the Kaffirs' face". The court was told how he posted comments on Facebook that he was "willing to die in the cause of Allah". He added: "Sharia law on its way on our streets. We will implement it, it's part of our religion." At the time he was first arrested last June on an unrelated matter, police found a ripped-up letter in his jeans pocket.

In the letter he wrote about mounting an attack on a British soldier and expressed the desire to die a martyr. But Ziamani denied he was planning a copycat terror atrocity like the murder of Fusilier Rigby. On the letter, he said: "I was ranting and raging about the situation in Muslim countries which was described in these talks. I did not believe it at all."

Note – It is interesting to note that when Afro-Caribbeans are converted to Islam they become more vicious than other Muslims.

1.5 British attitude towards Hindus

There is a Reference book entitled, “ITV visual History of the Twentieth Century.”

On page 86 we find – Gandhi rejects violence as India seeks self rule.

On March 10, 1922 Mohandas Gandhi, the figure-head of Indian nationalism was arrested and imprisoned by the ruling British authorities. The key figure in a two-year campaign of non-co-operation, Gandhi was charged with sedition and given a six-year jail sentence.

India had been under formal British rule since the days of Clive of India in the

Mid-eighteenth century. Although a nationalist heritage existed during the century that followed, it was with the formation of the Indian National Congress in 1885 that a forum for independence first emerged.

Our comment -That is their imperial arrogance in the 21st century! And what did our Indian High Commission do about such utterances? Nothing!

1.6 British arrogance has not gone

In December 2014, British Ambassador to Nepal advised that country to be secular.

He had no right to interfere in internal affairs of another sovereign country, but the Imperial arrogance of the British had not gone.

After the fall of Saddam Hussein a new Government was formed in Iraq. They declared themselves as Islamic state.

No British politician objected to it.

So, their logic is this - It is o.k. to have Christian Democrats in Germany. It is o.k. to have Muslim states, but a Hindu Raj? That is utterly sinful.

David Cameron, British PM himself had said - Britain is a Christian country” That is o.k.

1.7 Oxford University cancels Dr. Swamy and Malhotra lectures

On 24 March we received following news from our friends

http://bharatkalyan97.blogspot.in/2015/03/oxford-u-cancels-dr-swamy-and-malhotra.html

We are stunned that a leading British University that should be championing free speech and freedom of thought has taken such a cowardly decision. We cannot allow the appeasement of extremists to stifle cherished values and I fear this decision will reflect vary badly on Oxford University and their much publicized “free rigorous thinking credentials”

Satis K Sharma, General Secretary, National Council of Hindu Temples (UK)

Following a series of meetings between prominent and influential members of Oxford University’s academic faculty and members of Oxford Indian Society, on Friday 20th a decision was taken to cancel the above lecture citing “logistical and internal issues” We have asked for further clarification as to the reasons and justification and await clarification. In light of this very significant development, Shri Rajiv Malhotra who had been battling health issues to ensure his participation at the events, has now bowed to his physicians recommendation not to travel, and will be participating fully in all of the remaining events by live video conference. Dr Subramanian Swamy remains undeterred and unsurprised and will be present and will join other speakers at the remaining events as planned.

From this surprising cancellation, effectively banning Dr Swamy and Shre Malhotra from speaking at Oxford University we might reasonably conclude that the faculty of Oxford University, tasked with the responsibility of educating young impressionable minds, are incapable of communicating by personal example, the fundamental need for observance and protection of Human rights, especially the right to Freedom of Speech. A statistical review of who has been barred and who has been welcomed may reveal an uncomfortable correlation and point to a persistent phenomenon concerning the clarity of vision and “discrimination-free” credentials of the senior members of Oxford Academic Faculty. Particularly it would seem then the rights being trampled underfoot are those of “brown skinned Hindus”. It must be asked whether we are to conclude that in Oxford, Hindus are most welcome as long as they adhere to and preserve the underlying subliminal “colonial Christian supremacist” ideology and contribute generously to the coffers of “Eurocentric perspective fixated” colleges. The evidence before us may indicate that when this dominant theme and the western world view is challenged by any academic Hindu of stature – unfettered racism and religious discrimination seem to arise and completely obscure the otherwise pristine vision of principles of “freedom of speech”. Is this merely the latest expression of a residual bigoted, deeply anti Hindu strand of the colonial psyche, a psyche which has overseen the destruction of all other indigenous religions and cultures and now appears to have its focus on India and Hindus?

Oxford University’s reputation as a bastion of unemotional reasoning coupled with fearless, rigorous academic interrogation has suffered a possibly mortal blow, and as for being the pinnacle of learning and wisdom and guidance on the application of these highest human values in times of turmoil, those Oxford University’s faculty members responsible for this decision risk tumbling to join the ranks of closet religious bigots and racists such as Wendy Doniger and her ilk, peddlers of simply old fashioned white supremacist rhetoric masquerading as erudition. Recent persons welcomed to speak or given a platform at Oxford University include Marine Le Pen, Wendy Doniger, Tony Blair of WMD fame, Gerry Adams, David Irving – Holocaust denier, Dr Zakir Naik- Extremist Muslim preacher.

All other events will be proceeding as planned.

Our comments - Dear oh dear! This is exactly what Savarkar had reported when studying in London during 1906-10. He said, “Shyamji Krishnavarma who was once adored by the British as a Sanskrit scholar is now persona-non-grata because he is seeking Indian Independence.” In 1909 Shyamji was debarred by benchers of Inner Temple and Oxford University returned his donation of Ł1,000 in memory of philosopher Herbert Spencer.

1.8 America ends its blockade of Cuba.

US President Obama and Cuban President Rahul Castro shook hands at meeting of Latin American countries. (Summit of Americas) in Panama

However, Obama stated, “We are not seeking regime change in Cuba, but will press for democracy and human rights.” (Sunday 12 April 2015)

Sure, why does it he not the same elsewhere – say in Pakistan and Bangladesh?

That shows his true nature. Some 18 months back he visited Burma and told its leaders, “Your Muslims are your assets and should be used for your progress. But he would not say the same to Pakistani and Bangladeshi leaders about their minority Hindus. Oh No.

That will be interfering in the internal affairs of another country.

1.9 We are still gullible about Islam

On 4 November 2014  one General wrote :-

At last, a Prime Minister with guts.

The rest of the world could take a lesson from him.

Hats off to Monsieur Fillon!!! (Prime Minister of France)

Muslims who want to live under the law of the 'Islamic Sharia' have recently been told to leave France in order to guard against possible terrorist attacks, the government has targeted radicals.

Apparently, the Prime Minister, Francois Fillon has angered some French Muslims in stating: THOSE IMMIGRANTS, WHO ARE NOT FRENCH MUST ADAPT.
Take it or leave it, I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Our culture has developed with struggles and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

Our official language is French, not Spanish, or Lebanese, or Arabic, or Chinese, or Japanese, or any other language. Therefore, if you want to be part of our society, learn the language!

Most French people believe in God. This is not some Christian obligation, influence by the rightists or political pressure, but it is a fact, because men and women founded this nation on Christian principles, and this is clearly documented.

It is then appropriate to display this on the walls of our schools? If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your home, because God is part of our culture.

We will accept your beliefs without question. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in peaceful harmony with us.
This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and AND OUR LIFESTYLE.
And we offer you the opportunity to enjoy all this.
But if you're tired of our flag, our commitment, our Christian beliefs, or our lifestyle,
I strongly encourage you to take advantage of another great French freedom ...
THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

If you are not happy here then LEAVE.
We did not force you to come here.
You asked to be here.
So accept the country YOU chose.

...Well said Mr. Fillon!!!!!

On 7 November we commented -

How easily we get carried away by emotions!

Read the statement carefully. It states, "We will accept your beliefs without question.
All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in peaceful harmony with us."

Now, fundamental belief of Muslims is that Prophet Mohammed is the last prophet of Allah. Any one who does not believe in this is a Kafir (non-believer) and must be killed.

According to Koran there can be no deviation from this teaching. So, how are the French going to live in peace with Muslims?

That is the question.

1.10 The Battle of Waterloo

In March 2015 Belgians wanted to issue a 2 Euro coin to celebrate the battle of Waterloo (On June 18, 1815 Napoleon’s army was defeated by Duke of Wellington). France objected. So, no coin was issued. Belgium was forced to get rid of around 180,000 two-euro coins that had already been minted after Paris sent a letter saying they could cause an "unfavourable reaction in France".

But on 8 June Belgium began minting 2.5-euro coins marking the 200th anniversary of Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. They managed to skirt the French protests using a rule that allows eurozone countries to unilaterally issue coins if they are in an irregular denomination -- in this case, 2.5 euros.

The British went ahead and direct descendents of Duke of Wellington unveiled a memorial in Waterloo Railway station in London.

1.11  Visitors to Taj Mahal

Once again one of our IT Engineers said that he had visited Taj Mahal without Godbole’s Tourist Guide. Why people don’t inform us in time?

1.12 Godbole’s visit to Pune – January / February 2015

Some additional comments –

(i) During Obama’s visit to New Delhi Modi had invited all Chief Ministers for a dinner party. It as revealed later that invitation did not reach Chief Minister of Maharashtra. This reflects badly on BJP party machinery and its inability to control the Civil Service.

(ii) Enjoyed a ride in Tata's Nano car. It is good and quite comfortable. We certainly have brains.

(iii) One feels urgent need for provision of toilets in our temples and other public places.

For example, Jagadamba Temple in Kolhapur – people travel long distances to visit this temple, but there are no toilets. There is a garden where toilets can be located.

Some four years back we visited famous Ramtek temple in Nagpur. Toilets stink. There is no excuse. Once I had to go to a crematorium in Pune (Vaikuntha) – no toilets.

In Goa people visit churches built by barbarian Portuguese, but they do have toilets!

(iv) There is a serious problem of stray dogs and cattle. These need to be humanely killed.

It is preposterous to see these animals starve to death. In Pune stray dogs bite people and have killed one baby.

(v) Living in high rise flats has its dangers. Once we wanted to go on 6th floor, but the lift was not working. So we had to climb the stairs. Luckily we had no shopping with us. Lift did not start for 15 hours.

1.13 Our history, hundred years ago

Moderate leader Gopal Krishna Gokhale died in 1915. Savarkar was in jail in Andaman Prison Officer Barrie said, “Well Mr Savarkar, You are always trying to get information from outside. Here is news for you. Mr Gokhale is dead.”

Savarkar was stunned, tears came to his eyes. Following conversation ensued –

Barrie       “Was he not your enemy?”

Savarkar  “Oh no. Our opinions varied, but he was not my enemy.”

Barrie    “But during your trial it was pointed out that Gokhale had said – There will be no

                 peace unless Savarkar is arrested.”

Savarkar – “One should not believe in Bazaar gossip. We had met in London and had

nothing but deep respect for each other. He may not have approved my

methods but that does not make him less of a patriot. He was undoubtedly one

of the great leaders of his generation. If only every Hindu tried to be as good as

him we will make tremendous stride towards our progress”

Barrie noted every word of Savarkar and wrote in his diary, “These Marathas, however different they appear on the surface are one in heart.” (i.e. they want to achieve independence).

One does not speak evil of the dead, but there are not just the expressions in 1915.

In 1937 after his release from internment Savarkar gave a public speech in Pune. He said, “This Congress Party was once in the hands of Moderates. I do not blame them in any way. They were great rebels of their times. And among then there were persons like Gokhale who we regarded as fatherly figures.”

1.14 Obama’s visit to Hindusthan.

US President Obama was invited by Modi to attend Republican Day celebrations on 26 January 2015. I was in Pune at that time and could not understand euphoria of our people.

Obama is a lame-duck president. He does not control either the Senate or House of Representative. He can’t get his own legislation through.

We can’t forget that Obama did meet Sonia Gandhi during his stay in New Delhi.

> We hardly find any assessment of what we gained from this visit. Any concessions gained will be nullified at a stroke by next US President.

Moreover Obama showed his true colour by stating, “Gandhi would have been concerned at the growing religious intolerance in India.” This is against the protocol. We should have said, “Mind your own business.” Instead there was discussion on his remarks in Marathi newspapers!

No one in Indian Media reminded Obama of growing racial intolerance in America. We knew of several cases of unarmed Black Americans being shot dead by White Policemen and the grand juries refusing to prosecute them. The white policemen claimed that they were threatened – that was o.k. Here are some recent cases.                                                    US police: Controversial recent killings

(1) Sunday 24 May 2015

Violence has flared in Cleveland, Ohio after a police officer was found not guilty over the shooting deaths of an unarmed black man and a woman after a high-speed car chase in November 2012.

Police in Cleveland arrested 71 people during protests over the weekend sparked by the acquittal of an officer accused of killing an unarmed black couple. Protesters gathered shortly after the verdict was announced on Saturday morning.

Michael Brelo, 31, had been accused of voluntary manslaughter and aggravated assault over the deaths of Malissa Williams and Timothy Russell in Cleveland.

Five other police supervisors have been indicted on misdemeanour dereliction of duty charges over the deaths and are due to go on trial in July.

Protesters gathered after Officer Michael Brelo was found not guilty of killing of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams. The couple were shot dead in the front seat of their vehicle following a car chase that started when their car backfired and the sound was mistaken for a gunshot. Police officers fired a total of 37shots; Brelo fired 49 shots -15 of them while standing on the bonnet of the car.  (why the police did not shoot at tyres?)                    .

The case follows a series of high-profile deaths of unarmed black men in confrontations with white police officers in various states across America.

The incident prompted a federal civil rights investigation into the use of force by Cleveland police. The inquiry found “a pattern or practice of using unreasonable  force in violation of the fourth amendment", including "the unnecessary and excessive use of deadly force, including shootings and head strikes with impact weapons"; "the unnecessary, excessive or retaliatory use of less lethal force including Tasers, chemical spray and fists"; and  "excessive force against persons who are mentally ill or in crisis, including in cases  where the officers were called exclusively for a welfare check".

(2) 12 April 2015 Freddie Gray a 25 year old African American who was a resident of Baltimore, Maryland sustained injuries following his arrest by policemen. He died in police custody. Six police officers have been charged with his murder

(3) April 2015: Walter Lamer Scott, 50, is shot eight times in South Carolina as he runs away from Officer Michael Slager. Mr Scott dies at the scene. The shooting is captured on video and Mr Slager is charged with murder. Video filmed by bystander Feidin Santana shows the pair scuffle and then Mr Scott fleeing. Mr Slager is then seen shooting eight times at Mr Scott's back. Mr Scott dies at the scene. (what would have happened if there was no video recording by chance?) Mr Slager, who is being held in jail without bond, was fired on Wednesday from the North Charleston Police Department.

(4) November 2014: Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old boy, is shot dead in a playground by Cleveland police after a local resident reports he is pointing a gun at passers by. The gun turns out to be a toy. A grand jury will decide whether police will face charges.

(5) August 2014: Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old, is shot dead by Officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, (county of St Louis) Missouri. The shooting leads to protests, first in Ferguson and later nationwide. A grand jury decides not to charge Mr Wilson.

(6) July 2014: Eric Garner, an asthma sufferer, is stopped by police in New York and placed in a chokehold after refusing to be handcuffed. He dies despite repeatedly telling officers he cannot breathe. No police are charged.

(7) March 2014: James Boyd, an unarmed homeless man camping in Alberquerque, is shot dead by two officers. Video of the incident leads prosecutors to say the officers acted with "deliberate intention" and they are charged.

These are just a few examples. We can’t forget the famous case of Rodney King, a black man who was kicked and punched by several policemen when he had fallen down. That was in 1991. A video of the incident was shown all over the world, but the jury refused to convict the white policemen. President George Bush (Sr) felt sick of the gross injustice.

1.15 Memorial to Vasudev Balwant Phadke

Phadke tried to overthrow British Raj in 1879, captured, tried and sentenced to Transportation for life in Aden and died there in 1883.

It is not known that he was also a pioneer in secondary education and was one of the founder members of Maharashtra Education Society and its famous Perugate Bhave School, in Pune.

During his visit to Pune, Godbole was told of the memorial being erected in Bhave School.

As a past student of the school Godbole donated Rs 1,001 for the fund. He pointed out to the organizer D W Phadke that V B Phadke was Transported to Aden, 2,000 miles across the sea. Compared to this distance between Paris and Moscow is only 1,450 miles.

This shows how concerned the British Rulers were about threat of such uprisings! Fourteen of Phadke’s comrades were sent to Andaman. Thus, even in destitution they were kept 4,000 miles apart! Distance between London and New York is 3,000 miles.

Moreover, as per news reported in Times (of London) the charges against Phadke were –

* Waging war against Queen Victoria

* Conspiracy to wage against Queen Victoria.

He received following E Mail.

Dear Mr.Vasudev Godbole;

Please send the relevant pages (from Times) if possible. The inauguration program of mural took place on 15th February at Bhave School. We have invited Mr. Bhushan Gokhale, Air marshal (Rtd.) Indian Air Force& Mr. Mohan Shete (historian) for the inauguration. Both the speakers have elaborated the greatness of Vasudeo Balwant and told the stories about how he was arrested and charged for conspiracy against Queen Victoria. Why sent to Aden such a long distance. etc.

I am sending h/w photographs of the function for your perusal.

Best regards.

D W Phadke

1.16 Savarkarvadis today

1 Because of his historical research and other activities Godbole gets acquainted with people from various walks of life. One lady happened to have grown up on laps of Veer Savarkar and his wife Sau Mai. After reaching the age of 80 there was a big celebration in the family. Her daughters asked her to write her memoirs. Her family had to break relations with Savarkar due to police harassment of Hindu Mahasabha workers after assassination of Gandhi in 1948.

We need not go into her personal life. Her younger daughter was married to a Marathi man who worked in England. After coming to London she realized that she was cheated and deceived. The man was already married. She had to build her life. With her intelligence and luck she did well. Her mother visited London several times. What does she say?

In year 2000 we saw many modern shops. Then we travelled to Canada – saw Niagara Falls, visited Toronto. Afterwards came to London. Visited Tower of London, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, 10 Downing Street, Piccadilly, and BBC Broadcasting House. Then we went to Paris for 3 days.

From year 2000 I used to live with my daughter in London for 4 months / year. Saw Memorial to Lady Diana, Shakespeare’s place, trip to Amsterdam, Oxford, Cambridge, Kew Garden, Sea shore of Brighton (this is where Savarkar composed famous poem – Sagara pran talamalala).

In 2005 we went to Lake District- saw Wordsworth’s house.

In 2008 we visited Switzerland in a wheel chair.

In 2012 there were celebrations to mark 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. I was delighted to watch all the ceremonies on TV. Then came Wimbledon matches.

Then came the London Olympics.

So, there is no mention of Godbole’s Special London Tour which he has been conducting since 1987! No visit to Savarkar’s India House.

The lady does not mention Noakhali massacre of Hindus of October 1946, horror of partition, Hindu refugees fleeing to Mumbai in just their clothes, even though she lived in Mumbai, Genocide of Hindus in East Pakistan (Bangladesh) in 1950.

It is even astonishing that she does not even mention death of Veer Savarkar in February 1966. She was living only a few streets from Savarkar’s house in Mumbai.

2 Some 10 years back Savarkar devotees had organized a programme in Brent Town Hall. One of our friends had prepared some exhibits on events in life of Savarkar. They were framed and were displayed on tables.

Godbole spoke on Savarkar: Some unknown facts explaining how little is known about him.

Recently Godbole asked this friend to send him details of the exhibits. On 15 July 2014 he received a reply -

Godbole ji

NAMASTE

I opened the case of Savarkar Exhibition and found to have 24 A1 size and

4 A3 size photos.  It is very inspiring photos with write-ups.  Whoever sees it would find it very useful.

1.17 CHIEF ELECTION COMMISSIONER ABDICATES HIS REPONSIBILITY

On 21 March we received following alarming E Mail

In a media interview, that was published on 21st March, 2015, Chief Election Commissioner Mr. H.S.Brahma has said that law is not a panacea for poll ills. Confessing that money power plays role in elections and business and money are involved in the  election process, he has said  that law is not going to solve any problem and people should be told that in their own interest , they must vote for the right person.

Obviously, by the above confession, Chief Election Commissioner expresses his inability to ensure fair poll, which make one wonder as to what is the Chief Election Commissioner for?

The problem today is not due to lack of laws but inability and unwillingness of Election Commission to enforce the law in letter and spirit. Election Commission rarely punishes the politicians who violate the model code of conduct and often ends up in issuing warnings which no politician seems to take seriously. Election Commission today is viewed as a barking dog that seldom bite.

Even when Election Commission seizes the money that may be meant for bribing during the polls, it does not follow up the matter and punish the concerned political party but simply leave the matter to the Income tax authorities. What has the Election Commission done about the allegation that AAP received Rs 2 crores, during the recent Delhi polls from fictitious source? Election Commission's deafening silence in the matter indicates its attitude to its responsibility.

Bribing of voters has become the order of the day in several states including Tamil Nadu. Several such instances have been brought to the notice of Election Commission during the elections but it has often ignored them fearing the politicians. This is so, since Election Commissioners owe their positions to the politicians.

To cut the long story short, one instance is enough to show the weak approach of the Election Commission. A notorious by election in Tamil took place in Tirumangalam a few years back, when money was distributed openly to the voters. The then Chief Election Commissioner himself admitted this disgusting scenario but he did not move ahead to countermand the poll. Obviously, he lacked the courage of conviction, in spite of the fact that the Election Commission is a constitutional body with great responsibility.

Now, in Tamil Nadu politicians use the term “Tirumangalam formula”, as one sure method for winning election.

The statement of Chief Election Commissioner that law is inadequate and he is helpless deserves strong criticism and condemnation. Obviously, we need Election Commissioners with greater sense of determination and commitment to the national cause of conducting free and fair elections at any cost.

1.18 Ruthless criticism of Modi’s rule

In May 2015 Narendra Modi has completed one year in office of Prime Minister. Suddenly his opponents have started Ruthless criticism of his tenure. How strange the same people never criticized reigns of Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and MM Singh, let alone critically. But then Modi’s supporters can take a cue and carry out such ruthless criticism of past Congress rulers. Would they do that?

2. AROUND LONDON TOUR OF PLACES ASSOCIATED WITH INDIAN FREEDOM FIGHTERS

2.1 Dr Vaibhavi Palsule, Head of department of Politics, Ruia College, Mumbai came to London on 20 May. She and her family wished Godbole to conduct a tour for them. Unfortunately Godbole was away on grand-parent’s duties. He however sent Dr Palsule full details. She was very pleased and managed to visit all the sites on the list

2.2 First tour has been planned on 28 June. It is expected that more tours will take place later in the year.

3. BEHAVIOUR OF CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS TODAY

3.1 The Christians

3.1.1 CHRISTIAN CHURCHES ASK FAITHFUL TO MULTIPLY

We received following E Mail through FHRS on 16 February

Issue Date: Thursday, August 03, 2006

JOHN MARY

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 2: The predominant Catholic Church in Kerala has expressed dismay at the declining numbers of the community and has urged the faithful to stick to the Christian concept of sexuality that blends love and procreation.

In a pastoral letter to be read out during Mass this Sunday, in the year dedicated for family renewal, Syro-Malabar Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil reminds married couples of the tenets of responsible parenthood, rooted in Christian values.

The letter reflects the mood at the just-concluded synod of bishops of the Syro-Malabar See, the dominant among the three Catholic churches in India, whose origins can be traced to St Thomas the Apostle and the Syrian-Oriental tradition of worship.

The synod records with concern the anti-life and selfish tendencies creeping in among the faithful. But apart from that, the demographic anxieties of the community are joblessness and the resultant migration, highly prevalent among Syrian Christians, which have led to the dwindling Syro-Malabar Catholic population.

The last census had shown a decline in the population, especially among Syro-Malabar Catholics and Marthomites.

The church had sought to catch up with the Syrian Catholic Diaspora by establishing dioceses and appointing bishops outside the state and the country. But as demographer K.C. Zachariah infers in one of his studies, the community is facing the “Parsi syndrome”— of fast depleting population, threatening the very existence of the community.

The Syro-Malabar Catholic community’s growth rate from 2001 to 2030 is likely to end up at minus 4.9 per cent whereas Hindus will grow at 11.2 per cent, Muslims at 45.9 per cent and Christians, in general, at 0.2 per cent in Kerala, according to Zachariah.

The church fears that this phenomenon is already seen in the average 1.7 children per Syro-Malabar Catholic family. The cardinal reminds the congregation that the community would face a situation similar to that in European countries, where half the population will comprise the old, who cannot work, by 2050.

Read against the background of the Catholic Church’s pro-life stance, as opposed to the use of contraceptives and abortion, the pastoral letter is a call to beget as many children as possible by married couples who have the resources.

Sex is not merely an instrument of pleasure but integral to procreation, which the church reckons as participating in the holy act of creation.

There’s been a growing tendency among couples in their pursuit of pleasure to opt out of having children, and the pastoral missive traces the malaise to the influence of mass media, globalisation and a perverse view of life, and not lack of wealth or health.

There’s a growing feeling that children are a nuisance to a pleasurable life. Even those who have the resources do not beget for selfish reasons, it says, adding that growing extra and pre-marital relationships and divorce for silly reasons are destroying the sanctity of family life.

Pointing to a general decadence, the letter points out that baptism, birthdays, first Holy Communion, betrothal, weddings and wedding anniversaries have turned into occasions for splurging. Common meals should be savoured in the spirit of the Last Supper, in a spirit of prayer and solidarity in Jesus.

'Kerala will be Islamic State in 20 years'

7/30/2006 3:06:52 PM  Pioneer News Service | Kochi

Christian leaders in Kerala are foreseeing the possibility of Muslims becoming the majority community in the State in the near future.

Syro-Malabar Church Ernakulam-Angamaly Major Archbishop Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil has said that in 20 years from now, "Kerala will be becoming an Islamic State" if the present trends continue. The Christian spiritual leader, in a recent interview to a web-based pro-Christian magazine stated that the reason for the possibility of Hindus and Christians communities being overtaken by the Muslims population-wise was that the Hindus and Christians are not breeding as prolifically as the Muslims.

Agreeing with the argument that the present trend of birth-limitation by the Christians could lead to the disappearance of Catholics in the State, the Cardinal says that the Muslims are here in an advantageous position as they have "six-eight children" and also because "they can even have more than one wife".

Spread of education, contraception, collapse of the joint family system, assimilation of western culture are the points Cardinal Varkey sees as reasons for the fall in the population of Catholics in the State. He implies that such factors do not influence the Muslims among whom "girls, from an early age, are told that you must have eight children. More than eight children, it's a special blessing of Allah."

However, Cardinal Varkey is more worried about the fall in the population of Catholics in the State than the possible growth of the Muslims into the single largest community in near future. He estimates the Catholic population in Kerala at 16 percent as against the total Catholic population in the country of 1.8 percent. But the low rate of Christian and Hindu childbirths could lead to a situation where the Muslims may become the major community in the State in another 2 years. He says that Catholic doctrines from the West have influenced the Christians of Kerala and had led to contraception becoming common among them. He points out that people have no faith in natural family planning. However, this is not because they want to have more children, but on the contrary they don't trust the method. "They don't want to risk having a child through natural family planning," he says.

The Christian leader also says that the expense of educating children is yet another reason for limiting the number of kids to two in Kerala. However, Cardinal Varkey indicates that the church is trying to see whether the numbers can be improved. "We have declared that this will be a year of the family. Now there is an all-out effort to save the family, which is the basic unit of the church and of society.... (as to) Whether we will have more children, I have my doubts because now often husband and wife are working," the Major Archbishop says. Cardinal Varkey, who says that Hindus too have not been prolific with regard to population, indicates that in general, the Indian Hindus hate the idea of limiting population.

Our comments - When Hindu leaders expressed similar concerns they were ridiculed by Hindus themselves

3.1.2 I recently visited Glenfield hospital, Leicester. They have All faith prayer room and also a chapel for Christians near ward 31.

3.2 The Muslims

3.2.1 No post mortem of Muslim bodies.

BBC Radio4 has a programme called Sunday on Sunday mornings from 07:10 to 08:00 hrs.

On 15 March Muslims complained about post mortem carried on Muslim bodies. If the dead person has no history of illness his family doctor will not issue a death certificate and Coroner orders a Post mortem examination to establish the cause of death. This takes time. Many times week-ends and bank holidays cause delay. Sometimes suitable medical staff is not available. All this causes anxiety to the relatives. That cannot be helped.

Muslims claimed, “But we are different. Such delays hurt our religious sentiments.”

3.2.1 Urdu

I recently visited Manchester (Chorlton-cum-Hardy) and took our grand-daughter to Manley Park. I was surprised to notice the safety notices were in English and Urdu!

If you visit any public library in Britain you will find that Urdu books outnumber ALL other Indian languages book put together! This ironic as Urdu is a minority language in all provinces of present Pakistan.

3.2.2 Back to stone age in Iran                                                                                                  FP/AFP - A supporter of Iranian religious hardliners shouts slogans during a demonstration in Tehran, on May 16, 2014, demanding the government fully enforce obligatory rules that women be veiled in public

Around 1,000 Iranians staged a rally on Friday to demand that the government fully enforce obligatory rules that women be veiled in public. The demonstrators, both men and women, protested in central Tehran, carrying placards and chanting that the authorities "must stop the spread of vice" and enforce the hijab.

A defining feature of Iran's interpretation of Islamic law since the 1979 revolution, hijab obliges women to cover their hair and much of their body in loose clothing when outside, regardless of their religion. Hijab is among the practices that religious leaders and more traditional and conservative Iranians fear are being targeted by a so-called "soft war" launched by the West against Iran's Islamic values.

A dedicated "morality police" has long handed out fines, verbal notices or even arrested women it considers are not observing the rules properly. Despite such measures, the protesters on Friday wanted more responsibility and action from the government of President Hassan Rouhani, who has expressed a desire to expand social freedoms -- to the disapproval of hardliners.

"In some parts of the city, the veils are coming off right now and the full violation of hijab can be witnessed," Hojjatoleslam Kazem Sediqi said in a Friday prayers speech at Tehran University, shortly before the planned rally. It was unclear whether Sediqi was implicitly referring to a recent online campaign by thousands of Iranian women who posted pictures of themselves flouting the dress code inside the country.

More than 200,000 have used the Facebook page "Stealthy Freedoms of Women in Iran", launched to spark a debate on whether women should have the right to choose to wear the hijab.

The campaign is yet to generate a reaction from the government. Last week, thousands of religious conservatives held an unauthorised protest in Tehran, urging the government to confront the violation of hijab rules.

4 Historical Notes

4.1 How History gets falsified even today!

Dr Vinayak Vishwanath Pendse commonly known as Appa Pendse of Pune was a RSS worker, but left that organisation to concentrate on education and building of leadership qualities among youth. In 1961 he founded the famous Dnyan Prabodhini institute and did a wonderful work.

Godbole met him in January 1982 and gave copies of his research to Dr Pendse. After a few months Pendse replied that he was very pleased. Unfortunately before Godbole to respond Pendse died.

His biography was written in Marathi by Dr Swarnalata Bhishikar, one of Pendse’s students. A copy was handed over to Godbole after the death of his friend Hemant Kanitkar (who was a friend of Dr Pendse). Here are some comments and criticism of that book.

(i) It is astonishing that there is no mention of date of publication! Pendse died on 19 August 1983 and the copy was donated to Kanitkar on 8 September 1984. So, we have to assume that the book was published in 1984!!

(ii) The book is expected to outline Pendse’s social and educational work, but some important pieces of information are missing which are inexcusable.

(a) Pendse was born in August 1916. Gandhi went to Round Table Conference in 1931. Accepting the strength and support among Indian people, British Government asked the Congress Party to send 14 delegates, but Gandhi insisted that he alone would represent the Congress Party. Even Subhash Chandra Bose was alarmed!

Moreover Gandhi nullified all the sacrifices made by the people during the Civil Disobedience movement by uttering the phrase, “No Swaraj without Hindu-Muslim unity.”

That made the unity impossible.

Bose wrote, “Muslims were surprised by the huge support Hindus gave to Congress Party and were prepared for a reasonable compromise. Gandhi destroyed all that by saying, “No Swaraj without Hindu Muslim unity.” This gave Muslims the upper hand and ultimately led to partition.

At the RTC other delegates wanted to put their weight before Gandhi, but he refused.

The main question was – Communal representation. Gandhi simply left it to the British Prime Minister who gave the Communal Award – highly disadvantageous to Hindus. Gandhi advised the Congress Party to stay neutral with disastrous consequences for Hindus in Punjab and Bengal.

Let us see a typical example. In the 1945/46 elections, in Bombay Province, Congress won 100 seats (all Hindus of course) and Muslim League got 30 seats (all Muslims of course). Did Muslims constitute 30% of population of Bombay Province (after separation of Sindh province)?

(b) After his deceptive fast in Agakhan Palace in February 1943 Gandhi engineered Rajaji Formula – which meant partition.

Then he tried Bhulabhai Desai – Liquat Ali pact which gave Muslims parity with Hindus, and finally the partition. (are we to think that a 30 year Pendse was unaware of these events?)

(c) The author is blind to all this treachery of Gandhi. She shamelessly states on p34, “No one could stop the partition, neither Gandhi nor RSS or Azad Hind Sena or Indian National Congress. Why?” (as if this was some kind of natural calamity like hurricane)

During the crucial 1945/46 elections, RSS supported Congress and NOT Hindu Mahasabha (HMS). In fact RSS leaders were delighted that HMS failed miserably in the elections.

Gandhi had assured Hindus, “Partition of India? Over my dead body!” What happened to that assurance? (author does not say)

During elections Congress candidates became more Hindu that those of Hindu Mahasabha. They promised that they would never agree to partition. (surely a 30 year old Pendse would have known all this)

(d) By end of March 1947 in all the provinces ruled by Congress, Public Security Measures Acts were passed which made British India under Congress Rule – a Police State. On

3 June 1947 Patel and Nehru accepted partition. The author is blissfully unaware of this.

If Gandhi had any morality he would have said to Congress leaders, “You were elected on the assurance that you will never agree to partition. If you want to go back on your word, you must resign immediately and seek new elections.”

He did no such thing.

(e) What the author says about events of 1946/47 is unbelievable. She says , “ In August 1947 in New Delhi people were rejoicing independence and Ministers were settling in their positions, Mahatma Gandhi was in Noakhali wiping tears of unfortunate men women and children.”

Noakhali massacre took place in October 1946. No mention of the fact that 150,000 Hindu men, women and children were butchered by Muslims in East Bengal (now Bangladesh).

What was Gandhi doing there AFTER the genocide? That too with protection of 20 police officers? Author does not know.

Any person with some sense would have said, “It is the duty of any Government to maintain Law and order. By allowing 150,000 men women and children to be massacred, Muslim League Government of Bengal Province has failed in its basic duty. It should therefore be dismissed by the Governor under section 93 of Government of India Act 1935.”

Gandhi did no such thing as Hindus were massacred. So, that was o.k.

(f) Suddenly author says on p34, “Mahatmaji was brutally murdered.”

He was simply shot dead by a bullet and collapsed on site. He was not tortured as the author implies.

(g) Once again in 1950 there was carnage of Hindus in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Nehru and Patel did nothing but imprisoned Hindu Mahasabha leaders.

All these events must have affected thinking of Dr Pendse. Why does the author not want to know?

(h) Nehru’s visit to Pratapgad.

The author skips many details. In 1957 the question of linguistic re-organisation of provinces was a hot topic. Maharashtra was badly treated by Nehru. His public functions

were deserted and hirelings had to be brought in to show some audience. He called Marathi people monkeys. Congress party became a target of utter hatred. All of a sudden Yeshvantrao Chavan, the then Chief Minister had a brilliant idea. He raised a statue of Maratha king Shivaji on the fort of Pratapgad and invited Nehru for unveiling ceremony.

People were furious.

That was the background which author does not tell.

She depicts as if Nehru was helpless against demonstrators. In fact he had large number of Police, Home Guards and Military to accompany him.

(Taya Zenkin, in her book Reporting India gives details of Nehru’s behaviour. She was reporter of Manchester Guardian at that time)

(i) Pendse criticizes only Tilak and Savarkar

On pp 55/56 the author gives examples of criticism of Tilak and Savarkar by Dr Pendse. The author justifies this but does not say if Pendse had similarly criticized Gandhi / Nehru / Patel. How interesting! Gandhi himself had confessed to have committed Himalayan blunders. But author did not recollect any criticism of him or other Congress leaders by Pandse.

This not what was expected of a former student of Dnyan Prabhodhini

4.2 Our unknown history of dark days of August 1947                                                                                                            Our friend Vidyakar Bhide of Pune read the following news in Marathi bi-magazine "Pradnyaloka" published from Nagpur.
Dr .Bhagavandas, had published an open circular on 13th October, 1948 making Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sardar Patel alert by giving information of a conspiracy planned by the Muslim League to assassinate the Ministers including Nehru and Patel and the office
bearers and hoist the Pakistani Flag on the Red Fort on 10 September, 1947.

All this information was given by the R.S.S workers. Due to which a necessary action was taken and a large stock of explosives and ammunition was captured and the calamity was avoided.

Dr.Bhagavandas was born in Varanasi on18 Sept 1869. He had joined the Congress Party and was one of the founder members of the Kashi Vidyapeeth. He was conferred on the most esteemed. "Bharat Ratna" in 1955. He died in 1958.

All this information is given by Shree Dilip Deodhar from Nagpur.

Our comment – Unfortunately history of those dark days was never written. If RSS had any vision they could have kept quiet, allowed the massacres to take place and then they and the Indian Army would have wiped out Muslims. Alas, they never understood that gratitude was never a virtue of congress leaders.
