1. NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS

1.1 Britain

1.1.1Brexit – madness

In June 2016, Britain voted to pull out of the European Union (EU).

Problems of such a move are only now appearing one by one. Why were these not pointed out in various discussions during the referendum campaign? New Prime Minister Theresa May duly served a notice to leave as per Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. Negotiations started. As if the British negotiators did not have many hurdles to cross, Mrs May suddenly called for a snap election after having served notice to withdraw from the EU.

Here we noticed another political blunder. When Liberal Democrats were in coalition with the Conservatives they insisted on changing the rules and now we have fixed term Parliaments. That prevents the Prime Minister from calling a general elections when it suits him/her. But what suits the America does not suit Britain. We have heard the term Lame duck President. In Britain even if the government is running out of steam it cannot call a general election without the approval of the parliament. That approval was obtained with the consent of Labour party.

Mrs May hoped to get a big majority to strengthen her hands. But it also led to the fears that this will give her absolute power leading to savage benefit cuts and tax rises which frightened many people. It also adds to more uncertainty for businesses and industries. Harold Wilson once said, “A week is long time in politics.” In the end Mrs May even lost the majority of 12 that she had and now we have a hung parliament. This will badly affect the negotiations with EU. Now there is no chance in hell for her to say that she will walk away if EU does not offer a good deal. UK can’t play call my bluff game any longer. Despite the financial crisis in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal the Euro currency is strong. There is a frightening prospect of parity between pound and Euro. Soft Brexit will mean that all the restrictions of EU regulations, laws and courts will remain and UK will have no voice in policy making. It will have worst of both worlds.

Once a notice of withdrawal has been given the clock starts ticking. Because of elections negotiations had stopped for two months.

Moreover, if Britain outside EU has the same trading relations as before, what is the point of EU?

Surprisingly, article 50 of the Lisbon treaty allows for no re-negotiations – no room for manoeuvre. All the issues to be sorted out within 2 years! Who drafted Article 50? A British diplomat named Lord Kerr. Could the article be revoked if some compromise is reached during negotiations? Could the negotiation period be extended beyond 2 years? Could there be a transition period? None such questions were thought of.

1.1.2 Scotland

There is the constant threat and headache of Scottish independence. Again we are short of data. Once Yahoo news reported that 500,000 Scottish jobs depend on trade with UK, and only125,000 on trade with EU. This was never pointed out to Nichola Sturgeon of Scotland.

If at some future date, Scotland separates from England and joins the EU, how is the border between England and Scotland going to be controlled? (back to Roman Emperor Hedrian’s wall?). Nichola Sturgeon says “we voted overwhelmingly to stay in the EU.” The fact is that 60% voted to remain in EU, but only 70% people voted. So, only 42% of people (eligible to vote) voted to remain in the EU. This makes a mockery of democracy / will of the people and all such phrases. It is also interesting that the Scots do not want to be ruled from London, but don’t mind being ruled from Brussels.

1.1.3 United Ireland?

The situation in Ireland is very complicated. There have been no border between North and South for passengers and goods for more than 2 decades. Who wants this to change? Would the both parts of Ireland unite? Who knows?

1.1.4 Rock of Gibraltar

This was conquered by England in 1704 from Spain which now wants it back. There are only 30,000 Britons living on the rock. Majority of them wanted to stay in the EU. Spaniards come to work on the rock and there are 100,000 British pensioners (called Ex pats) living in Spain. Until the Brexit vote there was no problem, now no one knows what the future holds.

1.1.5 Border controls.

Mrs May says that Britain will control its borders. How much will it cost? Is she going to stop free movement of goods coming in? That will cause a havoc at the ports. Moreover, EU will also stop free movement of British goods coming into EU. What a chaos that will cause!

What about free movement of tourists / visitors? Is that going to stop? It will cause enormous harm to the Tourist Industry. I had visited France / Germany / Holland with my British passport. Will I have to apply for visas next time?

Moreover, all British passports are marked European Union at the top. What happens to these? And who is going to pay for the new passports?

1.1.6 Trade deals

There was talk of trade deals with other countries which at the moment is not possible – sure, but what are the figures? Once again we are short of details. Such deals take years to negotiate. What happens to the British economy in the mean time? Moreover how much are they worth as compared with trade with EU? No one knows. What can Britain export to China? All goods we buy in shops and supermarkets in U.K. are Made in China. Thanks to Mrs Thatcher we have lost our industries.

Already we have seen Banks moving out of London to Paris or Brussels.

U S President Donald Trump has gone back on his word and now says that a trade deal with EU will take priority over deal with U.K.

1.1.7 Immigration                                                                                                                     How interestingthat this not an issue in Germany or France. Surely those countries must be flooded by Romanians and Hungarians and Poles looking for work. Why no one produces these figures? Why the hysteria in England only?

When this issue is raised no one says – look from EU we have  xxx number of doctors and nurses and carers who look after old people. What will happen to these services if EU migrants leave? Why not be generous and say, “All those working in the NHS and carers in social services can stay. They need not fear.” Why make them anxious about their future?"

Only Peter Lilly, the veteran Conservative politician had courage to say, “British Government has not invested in producing skilled labour required for our industries. Under free market economy business managers simply import required skilled labour from Europe. They do not invest in apprenticeships. It is foolhardy that even today Government is stopping grants to trainee nurses and asking them to take student loans instead.”

But here is the crunch. Conservatives are obsessed with reduction of Budget deficit, and even balancing the books. They even aim for a Budget surplus! Why would they invest in our future?

If immigration is stopped it will badly affect the economy and Government may lose some 6 billion pounds in revenue. This will lead to tax rises and more benefit cuts. Moreover who will pick up fruits and vegetables on our farms? These will be left to rot in the fields. As it is because of fall in the value of pound Britain is no longer attractive place for EU workers. The irony is that those areas which voted overwhelmingly for Brexit will suffer badly.

1.1.8 Illusion of Imperial Power

UKIP members and others are under the illusion that there is still a British Empire. In those days raw materials came from the Empire and the colonies and finished goods were exported by Britain. That is no longer the case.

Exporting to Australia and New Zealand is not he same as exporting to countries in the EU. Only Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has the courage to point this out.

There was talk of many opportunities after Brexit. What opportunities?

Despite all the problems Britain has, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has the audacity to advise India to reach a compromise on Kashmir with Pakistan.

1.1.9 Folly of politicians

It is astonishing how foolish the British politicians are today.

Mrs May

(1) She wants to re-introduce Grammar schools by the back door, knowing full well that many of her own party members and M.Ps are strongly opposed to such schools.

(2) She also called herself as a bloody difficult woman. How does that help in negotiations with EU leaders? It needs a person who is calm, clever, deceptive, double talking, appearing to give away in negotiations but in fact winning concessions from the other side.

(3) She has also stated that she will cut down immigration numbers to tens of thousands. She has not been able to achieve this when she was Home Secretary for six years, but she says this would be possible once Britain leaves the EU.

(4) She also has raised the prospect of her government (if elected) would allow fox hunting. Does she not know that this is abhorred by may of her supporters?

(5) She openly stated that she will cut rises in government pensions, free bus passes and winter fuel payments for old aged pensioners will be means tested. This did upset large number of old aged people who would otherwise have supported her.

(6) She has also announced that she will legislate allowing workers to take one year off work (unpaid) to look after their old relatives. How much will this cost the employers?

Labour party                                                                                                                           * Ken Livingstone raised the issue of anti-Semitism in the Labour Party by making silly remarks about Hitler supporting Zionist movement.

* Jeremy Corbyn said that he would introduce public holidays for all the four Christian saints – St George (English), St David (Welsh), St Patrick(Irish) and St Andrews (Scottish). Immediately it raised the question of increased cost to the industries.

* McCluskey, leader of the union Unite publicly said, “ I do not see Labour coming to power, they will be lucky if they get 200 M. Ps. (why can’t he shut his mouth?)

1.1.10 What if?

It is astonishing that neither David Cameron nor Mrs May ever asked the question – what if our calculations go wrong? Neither had plan B – immediate action plan if their predictions went wrong. Cameron should have stated that UK will leave EU only if 51% of those eligible to vote ask for the exit.

1.1.11 Problem of Europeans in U.K.

There have been hundreds of thousands of Europeans living in U.K. ever since 1973 when Britain joined the European Common Market. (It was later expanded in 2004 to admit East European countries after the fall of Communism). What will happen to them?

The figures are interesting – 3.3 million Europeans living in UK  (population 65 million) and 1.2 million Britons working in EU (population 500 million)

Our neighbours are Germans living next door to us for forty years.

On 26 March 2017, Bedfordshire on Sunday reported the case of a Frenchman who was refused permanent residence after living in Bedford for 17 years. There is an 85 page form to be filled in. It really needs the help of a lawyer.

Maidenhead Liberals, in their newsletter Maidenhead Mail (April 2017) quote cases of two Spanish women -  Marta Solana and Catherine del Campo. Marta and Catherine’s husband Alex are both Spanish nationals who settled in the UK 17 years ago. Like many EU migrants they have spent most of their adult life in UK, contributed to its growth. Catherine says, “ Maidenhead is home to people from many countries and cultures, and we all live happily side by side – but I have had family members sharing Britain First memes and anti-immigrant sentiments on Facebook. Some of these people came to our wedding, and it hurts.”

Many EU citizens have worked here for decades, they have children and grandchildren  They are now wondering what they need to do to keep their families together. One gentleman in his 80s told us his memory isn’t what it used to be, and he is worried he will fail the citizenship test

Margaret Thatcher had played a mischief which is only now becoming apparent. She changed the Nationality Law. A person born and brought up in Britain does not automatically become a British Citizen. His / her parents must be British. So, children of a Portuguese mother and a French father do not acquire British citizenship!

1.1.12 ‘Triple A’ rating

Not long ago Finance Ministers used to boast of their country’s Triple A credit rating. It was

an indication of how strong the country’s economy is. It will affect rate at which a country can borrow money. If creditors are sure of getting their money back they will lend at lower rate of interest, if not they will charge higher rate. But one by one famous countries have lost that Triple A rating and no one is talking about it any more.

First it was America, then France and then Britain. All now have AA credit rating.

1.1.13  Domestic violence against women in UK

34 Women so far this year (2017) have been killed as a result of domestic abuse & violence. This is why our judiciary system needs to get tough on domestic abuse because at the moment perpetrators are just laughing at the system. 34 women (Figures from Counting dead women) last updated 2nd May 2017 January – April 2017: At least 34 UK women killed by men, or where a man is the principal suspect. 34 women in 120 days is one woman dead every 3.5 days.

Our comment – if this is the situation today, what was life like for women in Victorian times?

1.1.14 Child sexual abuse

There is no end to such scandals.

In 2016 it was revealed that famous Liberal party M P late Clement Freud had sex with an 11 year old girl. The case was so clear-cut that his wife publicly apologised to the girl for her husband’s behaviour

Historical Child Abuse

At long last the enquiry has begun. It will examine the cases of young boys and girls who were sent to Australia (from 1945 to 1975).

Shirley Oaks survivors association of 600 people affected in their childhood have pulled out of the enquiry. They thought that nothing will come out of it. Lambeth Council (in London) paid compensation to all (even those who had not complained)

On 30 April, BBC Radio4 time 07:10 to 07:50 hrs Sunday

It was revealed that Jehovah's witness Church was also guilty of such practices. Examples were quoted from Australia, America and U.K.

A former presenter of the BBC’s children’s programme Jackanory has been jailed for four years after a series of sex assaults on a nine year old boy nearly 60 years ago. John Earle who presented a number of children’s TV programmes in the 1960s and 70s sexually abused Ian Peters now aged 69, at Wipcott House Preparatory school in Devon.

Earle, now 87, was deputy headteacher at a boarding school in Okehampton when the assaults started in 1957. They continued until 1961. Earle was sentenced by Exeter Crown Court on 28 April  (International Business Times 28 April 2017)

1.1.15 How can this happen today?

On 31 May, former breast surgeon Ian Paterson was jailed in front of his victims, in Nottingham crown court. He carried out needless breast operations. He was sentenced to 15 years in jail by Judge Jeremy Baker. The 59 year old played on his patients’ worst fears by inventing or deliberately exaggerating the risk that they would develop cancer.

There were calls for a public inquiry after it emerged the NHS has paid out almost £18 million to about 800 of his patients. There are also calls for an investing into medical colleagues who ‘said nothing’.

Peterson, who left some patients significantly deformed was last month found guilty of 17 counts of wounding with intent and three of unlawful wounding against nine women and one man he treated privately.

Outside Nottingham crown court, Freaces Perks, who underwent an unnecessary mastectomy after her mother and sister died of breast cancer, said she would have liked him to go down and never come out.

Victim Diane Green, who said Peterson took everything away from me, added ‘we need to look to co-operators who let this happen, who saw it happen.’

Patricia Welch, told she risked a ticking time bomb of cancer leading to her mastectomy at 48, said the sentence will never fully recompense for all I have gone through.

John Ingram, 53, who had a double mastectomy after being told he had pre-cancer in 2006, said Peterson committed dark and grotesque crimes. He said I am still processing if I think 15 years is enough for somebody who has shown no remorse, who has put his patients through hell.

Jurors were not told that hundreds of Paterson’s patients were recalled in 2012 after concerns were raised.

Our comments – So, how could this happen in Manchester, England today? Moreover, with the present British justice system, prisoners only serve half their sentence. Peterson will be let out in 71/2 years time. What a travesty of justice! This reminds us of Dr Harold Shipman who killed more than 100 old aged patients by injecting morphine. It was only when some one suspected that there was something wrong that he was caught. He was imprisoned and hanged himself in prison.

1.1.16 British Airways failure

Towards the end of May BA flights all over the world were suspended due to IT system failure. Some 75,000 people were stranded. This happens because the managers do not have a contingency plan. They do not ask the question – what if?

Such management failures happen all the time. London Heathrow airport was expanded and Terminal T5 was built. But instead of transferring BA flights one by one (in stages) all flights were transferred in one day causing chaos. The ridiculous part was that all the baggage had to be sent to Italy for sorting out.

In the 1970s Victoria Line was built in London. Tunnels were built up to next station. Then next station was built. This was followed by track, electricity, signalling and all other services. Then the trains started running to the next station. Eventually the extended line was in operation.

Some 30 years later came Jubilee Line extension. Managers were brought in from Hong Kong mass transit. They decided that all the construction work (tunnelling, excavation and building of track) of the whole line was to be completed first, followed by track laying of the whole line. And in this fashion the whole project was to be completed. This caused chaos. America firm Bechtel were brought in as Consultant – they did not have a magic wand. Cost increased, project was late in completion.

Would our managers ever learn?

I was involved as a co-ordinator of Method statements of Shell Brent field jacket (the structure that extends from sea bed to above water level). At each stage some things were bound to go wrong. I insisted on the relevant Engineers on specifying – what may go wrong and how we will solve the problem. On the day of floating out the 20,000 ton tubular structure and handing over to Shell, we hired tugs and other equipment which would have costed £55,000 per day (at 1976 prices). Everything went smoothly.

It is astonishing that in all the above cases this was not done.

On London Underground we had introduced Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). So that in case of any failure of power supply, trains will travel forward to the next station and then passengers can get out. They will not be stranded on track. I know this because I signed the contract.

1.2. Europe

1.2.1 Muslim terror

Muslims are creating havoc all over Europe. There is a terrorist attack every 2 months in Europe (including Russia).

Britain is not immune from such attacks. It had 3 in 3 months.

First it was on London Westminster Bridge. (22 March) Khalid Masood drove car into pedestrians, killing 4, stabbed a Policeman with knife and injured 50.

Then on 22 May in Manchester arena – by Salman Abedi. He was a suicide bomber and killed 22 people including some small boys and girls aged 8 and injuring many others. How interesting that his parents came to UK as asylum seekers from Libya. Salman was educated here and yet he carried out such an inhuman act.

Third attack was on London Bridge. (3 June) It was carried out by 3 Muslims. They hired a van, ran into people, got out and stabbed people with knives. They killed 8 people and injured 50. They were shot dead by the police.

Khuram Butt 27, born in Pakistan was the ring leader. Once he even worked for London Underground. Rachid Redouane was Moroccan/ Libyan descent, and Youssef Zaghba 22. One of them was denied asylum but stayed in England, married a European woman in Southern Ireland and then was allowed to stay as a spouse of an EU citizen. ISIS claimed responsibility for this attack.

> In all such cases people naturally want to know the identity of the killers, but police want to keep this information secret so that the accomplices of the terrorists will be caught unaware. However, in case of Manchester bombing New York Times immediately published vital pieces of information, causing a row between UK and USA about sharing secret information. How can New York Times be so reckless?

** The problem is that sheer number of Muslim suspects is so large that it is impossible to monitor movements of them all.

Politics had played its part. British and Turks hated Assad of Syria. So they encouraged his rebels, gave them money, arms and ammunitions. Many Muslims from European countries travelled to Turkey and then to join the rebels in Syria. Things went wrong and ISIS was born. Now can Europeans refuse return of Jihadi fighters to their relevant countries? These jihadis will cause havoc.

Even then Angela Merkel rejects calls to change refugee policy. She is still in power and would probably get elected again. Germany has already welcome 1 million Syrian Muslims, in addition to Muslim it already has. Even if 0.1% of the 1 million Muslims become radicalised it amounts to 1,000 fanatics. One can only imagine the havoc it will cause.

Terrorists attacks affect public life and increase costs unnecessarily. For example, in many places bollards are fixed on footpaths preventing lorries / cars attacking pedestrians. During my Special London tours it used to be possible to bring cars into King Charles II street and stand in front of Foreign and Commonwealth office (former India Office). No more. Access by car is controlled which needs men all the time. In addition they also have to check cars for any explosives!

1.2.2 Migrant crisis

In France migrants have now moved from Calais to Dunkirk. How strange that they do not want to be absorbed among 6 million Muslims of France. Having travelled great distances they do not stay in Paris but walk 150 miles North to Dunkirk. Why do they want to come to Britain? Why can’t they stay in France? No reporter asks such questions.

Thousands of migrants are now coming to Italy by crossing the Mediterranean sea . European Commission has suggested quotas for each country. But Poland and Hungary refuse to accept any Muslim refugees. What will the commission do?

1.2.3 Islamic banks are increasing their share of the EU market                                          On 12 May we received an interesting E Mail from our friend Sandhya Jain of New Delhi.
http://www.vijayvaani.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?aid=4307

The abrupt growth of the Muslim population in EU countries has led to the growing amount of influence that Muslim migrant communities are now enjoying over the economic and political life of European countries. The percentage of Muslims in the population of European states is constantly growing, with this number jumping from around 4% back in 1990 up to more than 7% of the total population in 2014. According to the Pew Research Center, this ratio will exceed 8% of the EU population by 2030.

Our comments - This should ring alarming bells. Islamic banking means Muslims pay no interest on their loans as this is forbidden by Islam. So, it puts Muslims at an advantage as compared to rest of the population. A house holder will pay interest on mortgage to relevant Building society for 25 years, but his Muslim neighbour next door will pay no interest! Also birth rate among white Europeans is alarmingly low.

The map of Europe by fertility is a worrying sign of things to come

In layman’s terms, the total fertility rate of a country is the amount of children the average woman will have in her lifetime, providing everyone keeps trying for a baby at the same rate they do now.

However, before we look at it, there’s another metric you should be aware of. The replacement rate is how many babies people need to be having to keep the population stable (taking mortality into account). In developed countries, that rate is around 2.1 – e.g. Nine out of ten women should be having two children, and one in ten having three. Things do not look good. The UK, France, and Scandinavia are all around or just under that rate. But Central Europe is noticeably below 2.1, and countries like Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy lie in the 1.0 to 1.2 range.

This of course potentially affects so many things, such as pensions, healthcare and immigration. If there’s no one replacing us, who is going to look after this generation when we are elderly. Same cannot be said of Muslims in Europe. By increasing their numbers they will dominate Europe. Germany has allowed 1 million Muslim refugees only last year.

1.2.4 France

Emmanuel Macron became new President of the French Republic. But what are the figures? 75% of people eligible to vote did so. Out of this he got 66.9% In other words he was elected by 49.50% of voters. 11.5 million people did not vote at all.

Such figures are always forgotten.

1.2.5 America

(A)  New President Trump authorised attack of 60 Tomahawk missiles on the Shayral air base SE of Homs, Syria as President Assad is alleged to have used chemical weapons against his rebels. But Assad said that he does not have any chemical weapons. It is the rebels who were trying to use them and it went wrong and killed its own people. Trump gave an excuse - “It is in this vital interest of the U.S. to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”

Moreover, what gave Trump the moral and legal authority to use missiles? The answer is - might is right. Even President Obama had said, “If Assad crosses the red line there will be consequences.” Look at Congress leaders like Nehru and Patel. They have repeatedly said – yes Hindus are being killed and Hindu women are being kidnapped and raped in Pakistan, but we do nothing! Mahatma is the Father of our nation. No wonder the white man erects statues of Gandhi in England, America and Australia!

Trump then went on a tour of the Middle East. He made a substantial trade deal with South Arabia which supports Muslim terrorists all over the world. There was no question of discussing human rights issue. S Arabia is a member of UN Human Rights Commission. That does not bother Trump. America does not have any morality. It never had.

Executions

In 2016, China carried out maximum number of executions in the world, followed by Iran (567 executions). S Arabia carried out 154 executions. In both Iran and S Arabia leaving Islam is punishable by death. But Trump had no qualms in visiting S Arabia or China and making trade deals with them. There is danger that with the threat of nuclear weapons from North Korea, Trump will go much closer to China. Already there is talk of China investing infrastructure renewal projects in America.

(B)  America’s Racial intolerance

We read of several racial attacks on Hindus (including Sikhs), on temples and gurdwaras.

How surprising that no Muslim or Mosque has been attacked.

(C) Visitor’s visa

Have you seen conditions laid down for obtaining a visa for visit to America?

Go to their web-site – Applying for a visitor visa. It clearly states -

The presumption in the law is that every visitor visa applicant is an intending immigrant. Therefore, applicants for visitor visas must overcome this presumption by demonstrating that :-

* The purpose of their trip is to enter the U.S. for business, pleasure, or medical

treatment.

* That they plan to remain for a specific, limited period.

* Evidence of funds to cover expenses in the United States.

* Evidence of compelling social and economic ties abroad; and

* That they have a residence outside the U.S. as well as other binding ties that will ensure their return abroad at the end of the visit.

In other words every visitor is a suspect, a crook! Whether an applicant fulfils these conditions or not is entirely at the discretion of the immigration officer. There is no appeal.

1.2.6 Afghanistan – Truck bomb attack kills 90 in Kabul

1 June 2017. At least 90 people have been killed in a huge blast in the highly secure diplomatic area of Kabul in Afghanistan.

An explosion - laden truck blew up close to the German embassy during rush hour. Several embassies in the Wazir Akhbar Khan area were damaged. Germany, Japan and Pakistan said some of their embassy employees and staff were hurt in the explosion.

Afghan officials said it was a suicide bomb attack which also injured 400. Most casualties were civilians and many were women and children.

The force of the blast destroyed more than 50 vehicles. Makeshift ambulances carried wounded away. The BBC said one of its drivers died and four reporters were injured.

Sports store owner Mohammad Haroon said, “ I have never seen such a powerful explosion in my life.”  (Metro, free paper of London 1 June 2017, p17)

Our comment – Who else but Taliban would have carried out such an attack? Just a few weeks before, America dropped a Mother of all Bombs on Taliban tunnel-and cave complex hide-out in Achin District killing some 200 of their fighters. And yet they are still active with the help of Pakistan!

1.2.7 Hindusthan

(I)  Demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 Notes

Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Chairman Dr. Thomas Abraham confronted Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Dr. Urjit Patel at a talk delivered by him at Columbia University on April 24th for not allowing Diaspora Indians with foreign citizenship to deposit or exchange their demonetized Indian currencies. GOPIO estimates that over Rs. 5,000 crores of demonetized currencies are in the possession of OCI card holders and those non-OCI card holders with foreign citizenship. Many travelling to India to deposit their currencies were turned away by RBI at five of its branches (In Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai and Nagpur) which still accept the demonetized currencies from NRIs who are Indian citizens.

"This is gross injustice to more than 50% of the overseas Indians who have been deprived of their hard-earned income," said Dr. Abraham.

In January 2017, GOPIO launched a Petition Online campaign appealing to Prime Minister of India to allow OCI/PIO card holders as well as Diaspora Indians with Foreign Citizenship to deposit or exchange their demonetized Indian currencies at the Reserve Bank of India. Dr. Abraham presented a copy of the issues and comments raised by Diaspora Indians through PetitionOnline. Several thousands of Diaspora Indians signed the petition which is still going on at www.gopio.net.

"This is a major issue for the Diaspora Indians and it is a created issue and it needs to be resolved," said GOPIO International President Niraj Baxi.

The letter further stated that some of the NRIs and PIO/OCI card holders have old currency notes safely kept in their residences in India for reasons such as education of their children in India, supporting old age parents, helping family members, etc., so allow RBI and Banks having NRI accounts to accept the old currency notes up to Rs. 2,50,000;

Dr. Abraham presented a copy of comments and feedback from several thousands of Indians worldwide to RBI Governor Urjit Patel to forward it to Prime Minister Modi.

Our comments - We have to wait and see. It is surprising that our social organisations in U.K. have not come together and raised their concern.

(II) Laudable gesture by a cricketer

Our friend Ashok Choughule sent us following E Mail.   Gautam Gambhir to bear expenses of children of 25 CRPF personnel killed in Sukma attack, says report / Author: FE Online

Publication: The Financial Express / Date: April 28, 2017

URL:http://www.financialexpress.com/india-news/gautam-gambhir-to-bear-expenses-of-children-of-25-crpf-personnel-killed-in-sukma-attack-says-report/645493/

In a noble gesture, Indian cricket star Gautam Gambhir will bear full expenses of the children of 25 CRPF personnel martyred in Sukma attack, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain’s media manager confirmed to ANI. Gambhir has been vocal about an array of issues. Earlier, Gambhir had tweeted, Chattisgarh, Kashmir, North East, do we need more alarm bells or are we a deaf state? Life of my countrymen isn’t cheap, someone needs to pay for it.”

On Monday, in a deadly Maoist ambush against a CRPF team that was helping in building the roads in the Sukma region, 25 jawans were killed and six were left injured. The incident happened only 2 kms from the CRPF camp. The 99-member team of soldiers was significantly outnumbered by the 300 Naxals in the region laced with rocket launchers and AK47s, according to a report.

Earlier, Gambhir had come out in support of CRPF jawans who were allegedly attacked by stone pelters in Srinagar during elections in the Kashmir valley. Images of a stone pelter hitting a CRPF jawan have emerged soon after the elections, leaving the nation enraged. Both the ace cricketers expressed their anger on social media. “For every slap on my army’s Jawan lay down at least a 100 jihadi lives. Whoever wants Azadi LEAVE NOW! Kashmir is ours. #kashmirbelongs to us,” an angry Gambhir wrote on his twitter handle. “Anti-Indians have forgotten that our flag also stands for: saffron – fire of our anger, white – shroud for jihadis, green – hatred for terror,” Gambhir wrote in another tweet, as per a PTI report.

During Uri Attack, Gambhir had stoked a controversy with his tweets. In a series of tweets, he had said, “These 17 martyrs deserve a biopic rather than any cricketer. No better inspiration than a young man sacrificing his life for his country.”

“And these Jawans sacrifice their lives for paltry salaries in not disproportionate money & adulation reserved for us cricketers. Wake up,” Gambhir had tweeted.

Our comments – but what about the rest of the population? People have money to burn. Just look at the money squandered on engagement parties / thread ceremonies / even children’s birthday parties!

(III) What has the Narendra Modi Govt done to fight corruption?

Our friend Anil Nene of London has sent the following E Mail -

A detailed, factual analysis - A TIMELINE : Updated till 4th February 2017

27 May 2014 : First Cabinet decision - Formation of SIT to fight black money & corruption, which were deliberately delayed by Congress since 4 years, despite Supreme Court Orders!

14 Feb 2015 : Online auctions of Coal blocks started by Modi Govt after SC cancelled all previous Coal block allocations made by UPA. While the UPA engineered a scam of Rs. 186,000 crores in Coal block allocations, online auctions have yielded more than Rs. 500,000 crores & allocations are yet to be concluded!

11 May 2016 : Mauritius route of black Money Laundering put to an end! The Mauritius route accounted for 35% of overall black money investments in India. The Bilateral Treaty signed between India & Mauritius ended this practice!

5 Sept 2016 : PM Modi personally raises the issue of ending safe tax havens in Europe & other countries at the crucial G20 Meeting! All major countries of G20 agreed to wage a war on Money Laundering, black money & terror funding on the call of PM Modi!

1 November 2016 : BENAAMI (Transactions) Act amended & notified after 18 years! NO previous Govt had notified the Benaami Act & hence was not under effect! The reasons for not implementing can be well speculated!

8 November 2016: Currency notes of Rs. 500 & Rs. 1,000 banned! A historical move which broke the backbone of counterfeit currency, terror funding, Naxalism & human trafficking - black money used to fund these!

22 November 2016: Switzerland signs Treaty to share real time financial transaction details with India. This means, from Sept 2019, NO ONE can store any illegal money in Swiss Banks, as Switzerland will provide Govt of India with real time information of everyone depositing any amount!

2 December 2016 : Rs. 65,000 crore of unaccounted money by 64,200 people declared under the VDIS - Voluntary Income Disclosure Scheme & from which the Govt of India earned more than Rs. 29,000 crore in the form of taxes!

30 December 2016 : Singapore route of black money routing blocked, as India & Singapore sign the DTAA (Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement)!

30 January 2017 : 18 Lakh people who made deposits of "unaccounted sum" post DeMo, were effectively identified! Income Tax Dept sent notices asking them to explain unaccounted deposits, failing which action will be taken!

1 February 2017 : Funding to Political Parties by cash reduced from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 2,000 per head!

So,

1. Rerouting of black money via Mauritius, Cyprus & Singapore channels – Blocked!

2. Real time transaction data with Switzerland & other European countries - Done!

3. Benaami Transaction Law - Implementeed!

4. Political funding clean-up – Started!

When was the last time in the history of India (post 1947) that a Govt took such key decisions to fight corruption?

Our comments – there is also another side to Modi’s rule. He came to power as Hindus voted on a massive scale and voted for BJP. What has he done to satisfy them? He is carrying out the same anti-Hindu, pro-Muslim policies of MM Singh.

Modi gave no role to S Swamy and goes to Pakistan to wish Happy Birthday to Nawaz Sheriff! Next day we had terrorists attack on Pathankot air base.

He has offered Padma Vibhushan to rogue politician like Sharad Pawar.

Modi could easily use offices of BJP (especially in UK and USA) to filter correct information about government policies on many important issues. These offices can also act as important source of feedback.

3. BEHAVIOUR OF CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS TODAY

3.1 The Christians

3.1.1 Baptist church of America is going to support Christian University in Nagaland.

Church attendance is going down hill even in America, but they are hell bent on destroying Hindus.

3.1.2 Death of a former IRA member

On 21 March 2017, Martin McGuinness died in Northern Ireland. Yes he was involved in IRA movement which carried out murderous attacks on Police, Military and civilians in Northern Ireland and mainland Britain. But he was also involved in the peace process and persuaded IRA members to stop fighting. Good Friday agreement was made in 1998. Both Catholics and Protestants agreed to power sharing and there has been peace in Northern Ireland.

How strange that those who were affected by bombings of the IRA did not forgive M McGuinness. They preach Christian values to others, but not if they are personally affected.

Katie Hopkins wrote in the Daily Mail, “I am glad he is dead.”

Norman Tebbit was most bitter. In 1984 IRA planted a bomb in Brighton Grand Hotel where the Conservatives held their conference. Five people died and Tebbit’s wife Margaret was seriously injured. She is permanently in wheelchair. Mr Tebbit said, “Martin McGuinness was a coward. His transformation to a man of peace was because he feared being arrested and charged with a number of murders which he had personally committed. The world is now a sweater and cleaner place.”

3.2 The Muslims

3.2.1 Attacks on Churches

On 9 April, 44 people died and more than 120 were injured in two bomb attacks on Coptic churches in the cities of Tanta and Alexandria. The Coptic Orthodox Church is the Iain Christian church in Egypt and the attacks happened on Palm Sunday, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar. The terrorist group Islamic State said it was responsible. The Egyptian Government announced three days of mourning and soldiers will be used to protect the country.

3.2.2 Attacks on Sufis

Pakistan – Multan

On Sunday 2 April Muslim terrorists attacked Sufi shrine killing 20 with knives and clubs

> Since March 2005, 200 people have been killed and 560 injured in 29 different terrorist attacks targeting shrines devoted to Sufi saints in Pakistan according to data compiled by the Center for Islamic Research

As of 2010, the attacks have increased each year. The attacks are generally attributed to banned militant organisations.

The Schwan Sharif was the site of a suicide bombing in 2017 carried out by the IS. At least 100 killed and dozens more injured in blast.

Our comments – when Muslims do not tolerate Sufis even today, how will they treat Hindus now and how would they have treated Hindus in the past?

3.2.3 Saudi Arabia expels Pakistani Muslims

Saudi’s kicked Pakistanis out of their country why not UK, USA and others?

Look which country is deporting Pakistani Muslims and those Muslim sympathisers from

Canada, Europe and UK etc are not protesting about it.

Saudi Arabia deports 40,000 Pakistani Muslim workers over fears of terrorism!

Our comments – As they say chickens have come home to roost. Saudis, having sponsored Muslim terrorists all over the worls are now afraid of Pakistani Muslims! Please note that ISIS have threatened Saudis with terrorist attacks as Saudis are not true Muslims.

3.2.4 Copenhagen imam accused of calling for killing of Jews                                   IBT – William Warkinson/International Business Times 11 may 2017

Police have been contacted after a video of Imam Mundhir Abdallahappearing to call for the murder of Jews in a Copenhagen mosque caused outrage in Denmark.

He has been reported to police in the Danish capital after he was filmed citing a hadith, a teaching of the Prophet Muhammad, at a sermon during Friday prayers in Copenhagen's Nørrebro neighbourhood.

The sermon was delivered at the Al-Faruq Mosque on 31 March with the video posted to YouTube and Facebook on Sunday (7 May). Abdallah stood in front of a black flag with the Shahadah written in Arabic, similar to those used by jihadist groups such as Isis or al-Qaeda.                                                                                                                               The hadith said that the Day of Judgement "... will not come unless the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them. The Jews will hide behind rocks and the trees. But the rocks and the trees will say, 'Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him," according to a translation by the Middle East Media Research Institute (Memri).

The imam declared that there will soon be a "caliphate" under Islamic law, or Sharia, that will unite the world's Muslims and liberate the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem "from the filth of the Zionists".

The chairperson of the Jewish Community in Denmark, Dan Rosenberg Asmussen, said after being handed a translation that he considers Abdallah's words to be anti-Semitic. The Jewish community leader told the Politiken newspaper: "We are concerned weak and impressionable people may perceive this kind of preaching as a clear call to violence and terror against Jews."

In a statement posted to Facebook, Denmark's Immigration and Integration Minister, Inger Stojberg, called Mundhir Abdallah's sermon "awful".

"This is completely preposterous, undemocratic and awful," the centre-right Venstre politician said. "But it also shows why we need to lead a harsh and consistent policy. We cannot and should not accept this!"

The Politiken newspaper reported that Abdallah is connected to the controversial Hizb ut-Tahrir group, which has called for the return of an Islamic caliphate.

Last month a 17-year-old girl, the first female to face terror charges in Denmark, told a court she found ISIS ''exciting''. She was accused of planning terror attacks against two schools in the country.

Some reactions

This is what is happening in many mosques throughout Europe. Time the liberals acknowledge that a significant proportion of the Muslim population approve of such pronouncements

Charge him with inciting racial hatred and then deport him

If I said this or in fact anyone else said this we'd be arrested for all sorts of reasons. He won't be touched or even if arrested will be given a telling off and told to behave in future. No wonder people are wary of Islam and the people indoctrinating others to carry out crimes against people. Clearly if this is true, then the time has come for such places to be closed down and banned. Further such people should be arrested for inciting racial or ethnic hate crimes and jailed....When will politicians gain the round things to deal with these people!

Hey, you let them in, you provided mosques for them to spread their messages, you gave them your land, your money and your freedoms....now they will come back to bite you....…

There is so much in both Islam and Christianity that preaches the hatred and murder of members of the religion that actually follow the Old Testament, the Mosaic Laws, and resting on the seventh day. Jealously?

Time to raze the Al Oxhead mosque, and send it to Saudi Arabia, where they can reassemble it. Or just blow it to smithereens and forget about the whole thing. Then Build a New Temple!!

How awful, to hear of an "imam" in a place like Denmark.

By the way, one of the parts of Islam is a plan to kill Jews. That is not news. So, what this, er, gentleman said is standard.

Same as our Universities then, polluted by the foul socialists and its Islamic friends

Two alien races in a nation that has given them a home and what happens? Anybody remember Paris? And so it goes on...........

3.2.5 Eiffel Tower Lights out for Iran Attacks

AFP 8 June 2017

The Eiffel Tower will turn its lights out on Thursday as a mark of respect for the victims of deadly twin attacks in Tehran, which were claimed by the Islamic State group.

"Tonight, at midnight, the Eiffel Tower will turn off its lights in homage to the victims of the attacks in Tehran. Paris and Parisians stand in solidarity" with the victims, Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo said on Twitter.

Wednesday's attacks at Tehran's parliament complex and the shrine of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini killed 17 people and wounded more than 50.  (Erecting memorials to the dead is strictly forbidden by Prophet Mohammed. That’s why there are no tombstones to S Arabia’s kings.)

They were later claimed by IS, the first the group has claimed inside Iran.

Iran said earlier that the five Iranians who carried out the killings had spent time in IS strongholds in Iraq and Syria.

The Eiffel Tower has turned out its lights, an iconic feature of Paris' nocturnal skyline, for several previous attacks, notably the Orlando shootings as well as last Saturday's attack in London which killed eight and for which IS also claimed responsibility.

The lights also went off last December in solidarity with besieged residents of the Syrian city of Aleppo, as well as in a show of respect for victims of the March 2016 Brussels bombings and the November 2015 Paris attacks.

3.2.6 Ban on burqua?

4.2 Formation of Earth

4.2.1 14,000 year old village unearthed in Canada.

The last ice age on Earth started about 110,000 years ago and finished around 11,000 years ago.

A village older than the Egyptian pyramids has been discovered in Triquet Island, a remote spot 310 miles off the west coast of Canada. Items including spears, fish hooks and tools for lighting fires have been found at the 14,000 year old site. This is one of the oldest human settlements ever found on the North American continent.

Around 14,000 years ago the Earth was in the middle of an ice age – a period of very low temperatures, when large areas of land froze hard for long periods. It is thought the inhabitants of the village were ancestors of a people known as the Heiltsuk Nation, who have their own language and still live in western Canada. According to stories that the Heiltsuk Nation have passed down from their ancestors over thousands of years, the people who lived in villages like these survived the bitter cold by huddling together on a strip of land that wasn’t permanently frozen. The discovery of this settlement suggests that those legends are true.

Excavation at the site started last summer. Painstakingly the team had to dig down about 2.5 metres to remove bits of ancient soot from an old fireplace for scientific testing. The results of these tests helped the team to work out the date of the village. Historians are still gathering clues about what life was like in the village, but they are absolutely astounded by its age. Alisha Gauvreu, who took part in the dig said, “When we got the dates back we just kind of sat there, going, “ Holy, moly, this is old.”

4.2.2 Gigantic mammoth tusk buried on beach

At the end of March, a team of amateur archaeologists discovered something amazing sticking out of some sand. A two metre-long tusk from a woolly mammoth was found beside the Walton cliffs on Mersea Island in Essex.

Woolly mammoths roamed the planet around two million years ago, and started to become extinct around 10,000 years ago. They had long, thick hair that would keep them warm in freezing temperatures.

This particular tusk belonged to a woolly mammoth that might have died as much as 14,000 years ago. It’s extremely fragile so, after taking photos of the tusk and removing a few samples to study, the team covered it up again. The find was made by volunteers from the Coastal and Intertidal Zone Archaeological Network (Citizan) who are specially trained to spot fossils. You can see a video of a 3D model of the tusk on the Citizan website at tinyurl.com/TWJ-Tusk

(The Week - Junior 15 April 2017, p15)

4.2.3 In early June 2017 BBC reported that new human remains discovered in Morocco are 300,000 years old. So, our idea of when earth was formed and human beings came into existence has to be changed.

Dear Oh Dear! But, Earth was created only in 4004 B.C. as the Bible tells us!

4.3 Nehru’s secularism                                                                                                 Many of our friends stay in Indian YMCA, Warren Street, London. It is convenient, reasonably priced and fairly clean. There is a plaque on the first floor. It lists donors who paid for the construction in 1951-53.

The names are -

Government of India -         £30,000

Government of Bombay        £2,500

Government of West Bengal £2,500

Government of Cochin          £1,000

Government of Bihar             £1,000

Government of Madras         £2,000

Government of Orissa           £1,500

Government of Mysore         £1,000

Government of U.P.              £1,500

Government of Travencore   £1,500

Government of Assam          £112

This is not a secret. The plaque is there for everyone to see, but we just do not want to know. Tatas, Birlas and others being puppets of Nehru, of course also donated.

How can secular Nehru sanction funds (those too in pound sterling) for Indian Young Men Christian Association?

He despised anything termed Hindu. He wanted Benares Hindu University to drop the word Hindu, but Aligad Muslim University was o.k.

V K Krishna Menon, the then Indian High Commissioner laid the foundation stone. Again this is not hidden. The plaque is there for everyone to see at entrance to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hall.

Little wonder Winston Churchill loved Nehru.

I believe Mr C D Deshmukh the Finance Minister in Nehru’s cabinet at that time.

4.4 Riddles of Raam and Krishna

As stated in the previous newsletter these absurd and malicious thoughts of Dr Ambedkar were published by Government of Maharashtra in 1988 under the pretext of freedom of expression. My work on this was sent to a friend in Pune and we are hopeful that it will be published as a book soon.

Subject: Urgent Action Alert to help Holocaust Survivors & Victims’ Heirs

There is NO Statute of Limitations on Genocide!

Hello Fellow Activists for Israel and the Jewish People, and People of Conscience Everywhere,

Please follow the three simple steps below, and then forward this email to everyone on your list and urge them to do the same!Thank you so much

Buddy.

The Automobile Association of America (AAA) has teamed up with the Allianz Group, a behemoth German insurance and asset management company. AAA now offers its customers some of Allianz's travel insurance products.

The problem is - and it's a huge one – Allianz was a major collaborator with the German Nazi regime in the 1930s and 1940s. Allianz insured Nazi facilities such as Auschwitz-Birkenau, Dachau and the Lodz Ghetto, at the same time it sold life, annuity and endowment insurance policies to Jewish families throughout Europe. After the war, Allianz denied survivors’ claims by demanding original policies, death certificates and other requirements no survivor could meet after surviving the hell of the very camps and ghettos Allianz had insured. Today, Allianz still owes more than$2.5 Billion to the heirs of the insurance policyholders who perished in those very death camps it was making money insuring! This, from a company that had net income in 2016 of $7.25 Billion  Euros (worth more than dollars) and had on December 31, 2016, third-party assets of $1.361 Trillion Euros under management!

Since it will be very difficult to identify all of the heirs entitled to compensation from Allianz should the insurance giant come clean (many families were completely wiped out in the Holocaust), a significant portion of those funds would go to Holocaust survivors, a majority of whom still live in poverty and need money for medications, food and other basic necessities.

A couple of weeks ago, after having been the target of demonstrations by Holocaust survivors, victims’ heirs and Shalom International for the past six years, Allianz announced that it will no longer be sponsoring the PGA golf tournament in Boca Raton, Florida. This story was covered world-wide by the Associated Press: http://www.insurancejou rnal.com/…/sou…/2017/04/26/448 992.htm. Buoyed by that victory, we must now demand that AAA terminate its relationship with Allianz, until Allianz agrees to publish all its records and disgorge 100% of the funds it owes. You may also remind AAA that there are many well-qualified travel insurance services other than Allianz with whom AAA could partner with if Allianz will not meet its obligations to survivors.

Here is how you may help:

1) In a new email, Copy & Paste the following addresses in the "To" box:

2) In the Subject Line, Copy & Paste the following message:

I Demand that AAA Immediately End Its Toxic Relationship with Allianz!

3) In the text, feel free to write any message you'd like, using the above information as a guide. You may also mention that you are going to spread the message on social media, and urge them to do the same if they are moved to take action supporting the survivors. Then, put your name and city & state, or city & country at the bottom.

That's it!

Please help the Holocaust victims' heirs and survivors get moral and financial justice. Send your email right now!

Thank you so much.

4.6 British Social History – unknown facts

Long lost families – is an interesting programme produced by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell. They try to unite parents (mostly women) who had lost touch with their sons and daughters.

In May 2017 they say – During the last 6 years we have united more than 100 families with long lost relatives. What happened afterwards?

These are heart breaking stories of unmarried mothers whose sons or daughters were snatched away from them within weeks of their birth. Unmarried mothers were not accepted by the British society even in 1966. What anguish must they have felt for more than 50 years! Worst still what about mothers who never saw their children again? Davina only dealt with 100 cases.

The question then arises – what was the situation in Victorian days? One well known woman named Pandita Ramabai of Pune is said to have been impressed by treatment given to unmarried mothers by missionaries  (when in London) that she decided to embrace Christianity!
