Indo-Pak relations
What we read is unbelievable. Here is a summary of E Mails we received.

India’s Bold Moves on Kashmir
Ahead of Indo-Pak Talks Guest Column by Rajeev Sharma http://www.southasiaanalysis.org/papers43/paper4287.html
India and Pakistan are set to begin their engagement
process in the first week of February when Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama
Rao is scheduled to meet her Pakistani counterpart in Thimphu on the sidelines
of a SAARC ministerial meeting.
On January 14, Indian Home Secretary G K Pillai announced
that the UPA government may reduce the number of security troops deployed in
Jammu and Kashmir by 25 percent in the next 12 months. Pillai said the Centre
was considering reduction in number of security personnel from the thickly
populated areas of Jammu and Kashmir, an important Confidence Building Measure
(CBM) by India largely aimed at winning over the Kashmiri separatists who have
been demanding thinning of troops in the state. (But what CBMs are being
offered by the separatists and Pakistan? None. That’s o.k.) Pillai said
more security pickets would be removed from Srinagar city in the next few
months and indicated a gradual and phased handing over of security operations
to the state police. Significantly, he said, the state police personnel will
not be armed with rifles, but only sticks and shields to tackle protesting
crowds. He also announced that the Indian government was in the process of
retraining ten battalions of the Jammu and Kashmir Police for this
purpose.
Besides, the Indian government is also mulling over
injecting greater transparency in governance in the troubled state that has
witnessed Pakistan supported militancy since 1989. Pillai said the Centre
proposed to set up a state accountability commission and appoint information
commissioners to achieve this objective. Another CBM unveiled by Pillai is
targeted at the Kashmiris of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Pillai announced
that India will "unilaterally" ease travel restrictions and give
multiple-entry permits of six months’ validity to the Kashmiris of PoK to
facilitate their easy and multiple travels to Jammu and Kashmir.
[Note - Once Kashmiri
Muslims of POK cross the border there is no way for GOI to ensure they go back.
They can vanish into India just like those Pakis who were given visas by the
NDA Govt to watch the so called historic Indo Pak cricket series around
2004. PM Singh and Atalji amongst others believe that granting such
concessions is going to solve the J&K problem. Neither the Pakis want to
the Kashmir issue to be solved nor do the Chinese want to solve the border
problem. They will keep the problem alive so that India and its Army are tied
down. Unilateral concessions may be a move to placate Kashmiri Valley Muslims.
To my mind they understand only the language of strength. Stop supply of meat
and petroleum products from the rest of India and see how the Valley falls in
line. A senior Govt official in J&K shared this insight and added their
friends in Pakistan are too far away to help!]
This move by India is sure to rattle the Pakistani
establishment as Pakistan has consistently spurned the Indian offer of
bilateral easing of the visa regime to facilitate easier travels between Jammu
and Kashmir and PoK. Pillai also announced that once the six-month multiple-entry
permit expires, the Government of India will not hesitate to grant another
permit and will not subject the applicant from PoK to security clearance for
the second time. India has repeatedly suggested more Kashmir-specific CBMs
to Pakistan – such as raising the frequency of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus
service to weekly and starting more bus services like Jammu to Sialkot and
Kargil to Skardu – but Islamabad has consistently been in a denial,
rejectionist mode. (In other words
Pakistan is offering no CBMs in return!)
Though the inter-Kashmir travel between J&K and PoK had
started during President Pervez Musharraf’s regime in April 2005 when India and
Pakistan launched a fortnightly bus service between Srinagar and PoK capital
Muzaffarabad, the Kashmiris always remained shackled by red tape on both sides
of the divide. The inter-Kashmir bus service, therefore, has had very few
takers, thanks to a very harsh and rigorous visa regime and security clearances
on both sides.
On January 16, 2011 Pillai, the favourite whipping boy of Pakistan for his strongly-worded public
remarks that the Pakistani establishment has invariably found provocative, was
at it again when he said the Pakistani probe into the 26/11 terror attacks
in Mumbai “has not moved an inch”. He said “no real investigation” has
taken place in Pakistan in the 26/11 case.
None other than Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood
Qureshi had hauled Pillai over coals by blaming him for single handedly
wrecking the India-Pakistan Foreign Minister-level talks in Islamabad on July
15, 2010. On the eve of talks between Qureshi and External Affairs Minister S M
Krishna, Pillai had said that India had evidence of the involvement of
Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) in the 26/11
attacks.
The Centre’s proposed steps in J&K have come close on
the heels of anti-Pakistan remarks by top leaders of the Hurriyat Conference, a
separatist group that has the history of singing paeans of Pakistan. Some very
sane and bold voices have emanated from the Kashmir valley in the New Year.
Abdul Ghani Bhat, a top leader of the separatist Hurriyat Conference and also
its past Chairman, for the first time ever took a public stand against
Pakistan-supported Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and said Kashmiri
leaders and thinkers were not killed by government forces but “our own people”.
Bhat made this remark in context of the assassinations of top moderate leaders
like Abdul Ghani Lone and Maulvi Farooq, killed in 1990 and 2002 respectively
for not toeing the Pakistani line in Kashmir politics. “Time has come to speak
the truth. Neither the Army nor the police killed Lone sahib and Maulvi Farooq
sahib but our own people,” Bhat said while addressing a seminar in Srinagar on
the role of intellectuals in the separatist movement. Significantly, Mirwaiz
Umar Farooq, the son of Maulvi Farooq and the current Hurriyat Chairman who
spoke after Bhat, and Bilal Lone, the son of Abdul Ghani Lone, have not
contradicted Bhat till now. Bhat also said that if the Hurriyat had to get
anywhere, its leaders needed to take into account their own follies as “This
movement started with the assassinations of thinkers and the people who held an
opinion.”
More important part of the Bhat speak was his frontal
attack on Geelani which essentially means a negation of Pakistan and its role
in Kashmir. Geelani is known to be beneficiary of Pakistani funding and
diplomatic support for decades and openly declares that Kashmir should be part
of Pakistan. Geelani was the architect of the Kashmir Intifada strategy
which the separatists started in the valley in the summer of 2010 through
series of strikes and stone-pelting. Bhat said the policy of strikes and
so-called martyrdom, without any strategy, had only damaged the Kashmir cause.
“There was a hartal for five months and 112 people died. And at the end of it
there is nothing by way of achievement. This is what happens when there is no
thinking, no strategy. If you want to rid people of Kashmir of sentimentalism
bordering on insanity, you have to speak the truth,” he said. Pakistan
obviously must have taken note of the sentiments of the Kashmiris and in all
probability the rogue elements in the Inter Services Intelligence would have
dispatched hit squads to take care of Bhat and other like-minded leaders. India
must not let it happen.

April 2011/ My job is done if Indo-Pak ties normalise, says Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh
Author: NDTV Correspondent / Publication: NDTV.com

http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/my-job-is-done-if-indo-pak-ties-nomalise-says-prime-minister-manmohan-singh-99376
On Board PM's Special Plane: Asked to list five things he would want to improve in the Indo-Pak ties, Prime Minister
Dr Manmohan Singh has said he would consider his job done if ties between the
two countries normalise.
"Well, I think five is too much.
If I can succeed in normalising relations between India and Pakistan as they
should prevail between two normal states, I would consider my job well
done," Dr Singh said.
The Prime Minister was speaking to the reporters on board his special plane
while returning from the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (BRICS) Summit
in China. Among its significant outcomes were the decisions to send a
high-level Indian military delegation to China and setting up of a new
mechanism for managing peace on the borders.
He
also sounded optimistic on the India-China relations after his meeting with
Chinese President Hu Jintao earlier this week.
"With regard to defence exchanges, my expectation is that they would be
continued and also there was a proposal from the Chinese side when Mr Wen
Jiabao came to India to look at the new mechanisms to maintain peace and
tranquility on the border. Work is in progress, I hope concrete results will be
visible in the near future," Dr Singh said. About the new mechanism for
border management, Dr Singh said it was Chinese proposal made during the visit
of their Premier Wen Jiabao to New Delhi last December.
Giving a sense of the meeting with Mr Hu Jintao on Wednesday in Sanya (China),
Dr Singh said they had talked about a wide range of issues, including trade
imbalance and the Chinese President had agreed that his country too has a
"responsibility" to deal with the problem.
21 April, 2011 / PM's fatal attraction Author: Manvendra Singh/
Publication: The Pioneer
URL:
http://www.dailypioneer.com/332941/PM%E2%80%99s-fatal-attraction.html
Any
other Prime Minister would have considered his job well done by minding India's
interests. Not so Manmohan Singh who is obsessed with Pakistan.
There is no rational explanation for his statement, "If I can
succeed in normalising relations between India and Pakistan, I will consider my
job well done." In normal circumstances a Prime Minister would classify
employment, health, education or infrastructure, as his key result areas. What
with a large number of people out of jobs, maternal and infant mortality rates
that would shame the poorest sub-Saharan country, an inability to retain
children in rural schools and sloppy progress in implementing infrastructure
projects.
But these are clearly not normal circumstances, and Mr Manmohan Singh is obviously
not a normal Prime Minister. Many have walked down this path, from the first
Prime Minister of India to the present one, and yet the distance to be covered
remains more than a marathon. Yet none has elevated India-Pakistan relations
onto a pedestal, as has Mr Manmohan Singh. Normalisation of relations with
Pakistan has obviously emerged as his fatal attraction.
This is not a case against normalisation of relations with Pakistan, far from
it.
Good neighbourly relations are most certainly the best thing that could happen
between countries. Especially between two countries that were separated at
independence, have since fought numerous wars on battlefields and continue
their sibling like rivalry even on the cricket field. In an era of intense
economic contests, having good neighbourly relations is an enormous benefit.
India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are singular in the world for defying history
and geography with their near absent trading and economic relations. This
enormous South Asian market has more in common within than without. But there
is no trade worth mentioning. And yet India's economy continues to grow at
upwards of eight per cent.
It is this economic growth story that flies in the face of the Prime Minister's
normalisation odyssey. For despite the lack of regional trade and economic
opportunities, Indian entrepreneurship continues to clock figures that are
impressive, to say the least. Conventional wisdom would make this the natural
constituency for the Prime Minister's mantra on normalisation of relations. But
the truth of the matter is that it is this very constituency that is
indifferent to the normalisation process. The stakeholders for peace are not
appearing from those who stand to profit the most. That is the irony of the
India-Pakistan peace process, something which seems to completely elude Mr
Singh.
Something has changed within India after the terrorist attacks on Mumbai in
November 2008 - something serious enough to have changed the language and ethos
of the average Indian. Pakistani frequent fliers to India have sensed it, and
bemoan the fact. But it obviously seems to have missed the attention of our
Prime Minister. He is clearly oblivious of the change that has overcome
India.
Mr Singh is obviously going against the grain of the country in his obsession
for normalisation of relations with Pakistan. There is no better authority on
this matter than someone who worked closely with Mr Singh. Consider this: In a
brief aside, Mr MK Narayanan readily conceded that he had differences with the
Prime Minister on Pakistan. He described Mr Singh as a "great
believer" in talks and negotiations with Islamabad, while he himself was
"not a great believer in Pakistan". He added that after Mr Singh
spoke of India's "shared destiny" with Pakistan, he told the Prime
Minister, "You have a shared destiny, we don't."
That was the former National Security Adviser as quoted by the US Ambassador in
a cable made public by WikiLeaks. At the end of the cable, the Ambassador added
his comment to "suggest that PM Singh is more isolated than we thought
within his own inner circle in his effort to 'trust but verify' and pursue
talks with Pakistan". Even if he is not isolated within the inner circle,
Mr Singh is quite clearly a lone batsman.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s cabinet has
endorsed a move to ease travel between India and Pakistan for certain
categories. The decision clears the way for a formal agreement between
Islamabad and New Delhi. The agreement could be signed if Pakistan’s cabinet
also approves the move.
Citing unnamed sources, the Press Trust of
India said that common people from either country would be able to visit three
earmarked cities from now onwards.
Businessmen with multiple entry, non-police
reporting visas can visit five cities instead of three, it said. However, the
provision will apply only to business persons whose credentials are certified
by the chambers on the both sides.
From India, it will be FICCI and from
Pakistani side it will be the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and
Industry (FPCCI).
In addition, elderly people would be exempt
from police reporting, as per the proposed agreement, PTI cited its sources as
saying. The decision comes ahead of a meeting of home secretaries of the two
countries, scheduled to take place in Islamabad in the last week of May.
New Delhi has also shown its willingness to
supply locomotives to Pakistan to meet the shortage of engines. A team of
Pakistan Railway officials is in New Delhi for discussing the modalities for
cooperation in the sector, Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal said.
The three-member team of the Pakistan Railways
Advisory and Consultancy Services Limited held preliminary discussions with the
officials of Railway Infrastructure, Technical and Economic Services.

2012 / Secret tunnel found in Indo-Pak border
http://bharatkalyan97.blogspot.in/2012/07/secret-tunnel-found-in-indo-pak-border.html
Jammu, Jul 28, 2012 (PTI)
Authorities today discovered a 400-mt long tunnel, running between India and
Pakistan, along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We have discovered a tunnel running between Pakistan and India in Samba
district," SSP (Samba) Israr Khan told reporters.
The tunnel was detected after an area caved-in at two or three places due
to rains near the BSF's Chillayari Border Out Post (BOP), he said. "After
the cave-in, the area was dug out to know the reason. But, the authorities
were surprised to find a tunnel," the SSP said. The tunnel, with a dimension
of 3x3-ft, was running between Chillayari BOP and Pakistan's Numberiyal BOP,
he said.
Dug at a depth of 25-ft below the ground level, it was 400-mt long on the
Indian side, the SSP said adding "we are confirming whether the tunnel
is operational or not."
The tunnel, which seemed to be freshly constructed, had air supply through
a 2-inch pipe, he said adding "we are looking into all aspects."
Pakistan must be facing a lot of pressure from the militants to infiltrate
them into the Indian territory, the SSP said. "Since it is difficult
to push in militants to the Indian side, they decided to set up a tunnel to
facilitate infiltration," the SSP said.

2 August 2012 / India allows investments from Pakistan By IANS - NEW DELHI Pakistani investments are allowed with immediate effect in sectors and activities other than defence, space and atomic energy, the ministry of commerce and industry said in a statement. In a major step towards normalising economic relations, India Wednesday announced changes in regulation to allow investment from Pakistani firms and individuals.
The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) issued a circular making changes in the Consolidated FDI Policy to allow investments from the neighbouring Pakistan. The government of India has reviewed the policy and "decided to permit a citizen of Pakistan or an entity incorporated in Pakistan to make investments in India, under the government route," the ministry of commerce and industry said in a statement.
3 August 2012 / Pakistan
tells India Mumbai evidence not valid Islamabad
has told New Delhi that recently obtained evidence of the Mumbai
attacks is inadmissible in court because Pakistanis were not allowed to
cross-examine Indian officials, a Pakistani lawyer said Wednesday.
The Pakistani interior ministry wrote formally to the Indian
government after a court rejected the evidence in July on the basis that
the Pakistanis could not question Indian officials, prosecutor Chaudhry
Zulfiqar told AFP.
The letter is likely to aggravate New Delhi, which has branded Pakistan's
attempts at prosecuting seven alleged conspirators a "facade" and has
insisted it has already handed over enough evidence to convict the accused.
Pakistan charged the seven men over the 2008 Mumbai attacks in 2009, but
insists it needs to gather more evidence in India before proceeding
further.
"Defence lawyers were not given an opportunity to cross examine Indian
officials," said Zulfiqar, who headed the judicial commission's visit in
March.
Pakistan wanted Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, who is the sole surviving
gunman from the attacks and sentenced to death in India, to testify, but he was
not included among the interviewees requested by the panel. The Pakistani
commission recorded the statements of Indian investigators, doctors who
performed autopsies and the magistrate who took Kasab's confession.
India blames Pakistani militants from Lashkar-e-Taiba of carrying out the
attacks that killed 166 people, with support from "elements" in the
Pakistani military.
Pakistan has admitted that the attacks were planned partly on its soil, but
flatly denies any official involvement.

on grounds of liberalism is a threat to our national security by Anuradha Dutt
Two Pakistani banks given
permission to start operations in India.
http://www.dailypioneer.com/columnists/item/52276-borders-are-necessary.html
Shortly after the clashes between
the Bodos and the immigrant Muslims in Assam, social media set off a wave of
rumours, geared towards creating fear psychosis in the minds of people from the
North-East. This resulted in their exodus from other parts. Indian intelligence
having fixed Pakistan's culpability in instigating this
‘psychological-jihad’, the
Government should re-think its decision to allow Pakistani banks to set up shop
here. The move to allow investments by the Islamic neighbour in all sectors
except defence, space and atomic energy is part of an exercise to enhance
economic ties and normalise relations. National Bank of Pakistan and United
Bank Ltd have been permitted to start operations in India even as two Indian
banks prepare to open there. But the sinister attempt to alienate the
North-East indicates that the commercial exchange will never work so long as jihadis
persist in destabilising tactics.
Those that are not fully aware of
the machinations that drive global business may ask why such an exchange was
undertaken at all, given Pakistan's failure to curb anti-India militancy or
cooperate in probes into terror attacks. India should immediately suspend the
commercial exchange.

1.3 Holy water from Mecca and Vatican for
Pandharpur Temple
Our friend P.
Deivamuthu of Hindu voice sent us a disturbing E Mail on 27 April 2010. We all
know that Pandharpur in Maharashtra is famous for its Vittal Mandir, which is
under the Maharashtra Government. The Govt. of Maharashtra is doing some
development work there, probably for providing better amenities for the
pilgrims.
However, what is shocking is that for the inauguration of the development work,
at the time of performing the Bhoomi Pooja, the Govt. of Maharashtra brought
'holy' water from Vatican and Mecca (apart from holy water from all over
Bharat). A concerned Hindu who watched this news in a Marathi TV channel phoned
me, and expressed his anger at the bringing of water from Vatican and Mecca for
a function at a Hindu Temple.
The appeasement policy of Congress is going beyond limit, as is the tolerance
of Hindus.
1.4 Google map cedes Indian Himalayan state to China
On 23 October 2009 our friend Jyotishi sent us a shocking E Mail
Leading Indian politicians have condemned Google, the internet search engine,
for publishing a map which cedes parts of the country's Himalayan states to
China.
By Dean Nelson in New Delhi / The Telegraph, UK
Wednesday, October 21, 2009
http://i.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01507/Untitled-1_1507256c.jpg
Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, is shown on Google Maps as north of
a dotted line marking the border between India and China, i.e. in disputed
territory. Google's satellite map of
the border area between India and China show several Indian towns in Arunachal
Pradesh listed under their Chinese names as part of the People's Republic of
China. The maps also show the state's southern border with Assam and its
northern boundary with China as broken lines, indicating disputed territory. It
also appears to question India's borders with Burma and Bhutan.
The publication of the map has provoked an angry response in India, where
tensions are high following a series of public statements in which Chinese
officials have denounced New Delhi for refusing to discuss a border dispute.
China claims vast swathes of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Arunachal
Pradesh, which it says were illegally ceded to India during the British Raj. It
rejects the "MacMahon Line" border drawn up by British and Tibetan
officials at the 1913 Shimla Conference.
"This is shocking. How could Google change the names of places of a
sovereign country without the country's knowledge?" Takam Sanjoy, a
Congress MP, told The Times of India. Kiren Rijiju, a senior BJP figure
in Arunachal Pradesh, said it was suspicious that the map had been published
just before planned meetings between Chinese and Indian officials to discuss
the border.
"Had Google changed the names of Chinese locations, Beijing would have
summoned Google officials. India, too, should deal with it firmly," he said.

1.6 'Beef is a basic Dalit food', said Kancha Ilaiah, a
Dalit ideologue
When
Ambedkar embraced Buddhism in 1956 in Nagpur Savarkar warned of dangers that
lie ahead of such foolish move. Now we see the result. On 21 March 2012 we had
this E Mail on Rajiv Malhotra Discussion group- Our friends in this group will recall what Rajiv
Malhotra said in his book Breaking India--that there is a world wide
interlocking of Christian Organizations, Churches, Think tanks, academics and
individuals all working to cause fragmentation of India. If you visit the
website of Dalit Freedom Network you will find one organization unashamedly
talking of bringing freedom to the longest enslaved group of people---dalits of
India. Among the foremost collaborators of this organization of Christians are
two of the most prominent spokesmen of Dalits in India---Dr Udit Raj and Prof
Kancha Illiah. It appears to me that more than anything else the monetary
rewards are the strongest motivation
Kancha Ilaiah has a massive chip on his shoulders. That is really the problem with him. What he passes off in the name of "research" is truly sub-standard, pretentious and motivated by hate. He cannot match his peers either in intellectual rigour or intellectual honesty, so he takes the route adopted by such frustrated souls - denigration and abuse of something held in reverence by many. In Ilaiah's case it is Hinduism.
I have a simple question for him on the current issue - why does he not have a "pork festival"? After all, pork is consumed with even greater relish by several Dalits/ tribes in India. The answer is very obvious - he is associated with the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, and in the name of "minority unity", serves as a front for many Muslim groups, including conservative hardliner ones. One word on serving pork at Osmania University and he'd be thrown out of his post and lose that source of income and the trappings associated with a Government posting at a University.

with Sau Gauri Sarwate of Pune. They and their group asked Godbole to spend two
days with them. On 12th they went to Brighton beach where Savarkar
composed the famous song Ne Majasi Ne Parat Matrubhoomila – Oh seas take
me back to my motherland (Hindusthan).
On 13th
they visited places associated with Savarkar and his compatriots. To our
surprise Savarkar’s India House (65 Cromwell Avenue, N6) has now been sold. The
group was particularly keen to visit Brixton Prison.
In
February, Nitin Welankar Businessman from Pune came to London and asked if
Godbole could organise a tour for him. Unfortunately there was very little time
to organise. It is still encouraging to note that the word is spreading.

Gates has “decided to make family planning her signature issue,”
by investing “billions to revolutionize contraception worldwide,” with
substantial economic consequences.
Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation
The Gates decision will “be hugely significant for American women.”
She’s “pouring money into the long-neglected field of contraceptive research,
seeking entirely new methods of birth control,” a “whole new class of drugs,”
some that could even work without hormones, and others, might be implantable
devises that never need to be removed, can even be turned on and off by the
woman.
The good news: Gates is already in high gear “teaming up with
the British government to co-sponsor a summit of world leaders in July in
London, to start raising the $4 billion the foundation says it will cost to get
120 million more women access to contraceptives by 2020.”
Gates’s research commitment may be one of the most significant
health-care decisions of the new century. As Gates put it, when she realized
“what needed to get done in family planning, I finally said, OK, I’m the person
that’s going to do that.” Now she hopes to lead the charge and “galvanize a
global movement.”
With this commitment, if Gates succeeds in these plans the
global economic, social, cultural and political landscape will be dramatically
altered, with women gaining more power over their own health care.
In a well-documented feature on women’s health, population
growth, birth control and family planning back in 2010, the editors of Mother
Jones magazine, Monika Bauerlein and Clara Jeffery, wrote: “Every tiny
improvement in the status of women, every bit of education for girls,
translates into women having more control over their fertility, which
translates into family sizes that match parents’ means and wishes, which in
turn means more opportunity for the next generation — a virtuous cycle of
enormous potential” and economic prosperity
Gates’s decision has been building for 18 years, since Melinda
and Bill got married and launched their philanthropic efforts. Newsweek says
she’s “a reserved woman who has long been wary of the public glare attached to
the Gates name,” and a devout Catholic who wrestled long and hard with
the implications for her faith.
But after years traveling clinics around the world listening to
women tell her how “they’d left their farms and walked for hours, sometimes
with children in tow, often without the knowledge of their husbands, in their
fruitless search” for a birth control shot, Melinda was “stunned by how
vociferous women were about what they wanted.”
And while her expressed “agenda is neither coercive population
control nor abortion,” focusing instead on “social justice and women’s rights,”
you can clearly see that this research will have a huge impact on the global
population economics.

officials in the state last week and done the ground work for the Gates-Akhilesh

healthcare in sectors like neo-natal care, maternity, nutrition, family planning and child health.
Under the schemes Gates proposes

Gates is also understood to be particularly interested in taking up drives like

3.2.1 End Haj subsidy in Hindusthan orders Supreme Court

Her
is a summary of all the news
New Delhi: Directing the government to progressively “eliminate” its subsidy within a period of 10 years, a bench of justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai said today, “We hold that this (subsidy) policy is best done away with.” This interim order is also applicable to the Haj pilgrimage of 2012.
The Supreme Court further directed
the Centre to reduce the number of its representatives from 30 to two persons
to be sent along with Haj delegations.
India has a quota of 175,000
pilgrims every year. Of these, 125,000 are selected through Haj committees.
Each pilgrim gets a subsidy of Rs 40,000. Rest of the pilgrims go through
private operators.
Muslim
members of Parliament have welcomed the decision. “The Haj subsidy
of Rs. 600 crore is given to Air India and not pilgrims… Under this
garb of subsidy, it (money) is going to Air India which is a sick airline,”
Majlis-e- Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi told reporters.

He further said, "But why ten
years? An amount of Rs 600 crore should be given to the Minority Welfare
Ministry for educating Muslims."

Updated: May 08, 2012 : Here
are the big facts of the case:
The
Supreme Court bench had expanded the purview of the plea and decided to look
into the legality of the government’s policy on granting subsidies to Haj
pilgrims.
A
senior member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, Niyaz Farooqi, said that pilgrims do not
get the benefits of the Haj subsidy. The government should shift focus on
providing better accommodation and food facility to the pilgrims, he said
adding, “Despite the subsidy, pilgrims have to pay extra for the trip.”
In
an affidavit, the Centre had told the court that it has decided to restrict Haj
pilgrimage at government subsidy to Muslims only as a “once in a lifetime”
affair as against the existing policy of “once in five years”. It had said the
new guidelines have been framed to ensure that priority is given to those
applicants who have never performed Haj.
The
government, however, had refrained from disclosing the amount of subsidy being
incurred by it for 2012, saying, “The exact figure in respect of the travel
subsidy to the pilgrims going through Haj Committee of India for 2012 will be
known after the Hajis completed their Haj journey and return to India.”

The cost of the Haj Subsidy
In December 2010 Hindu Samhati Media told us - Very revealing fact
has been obtained from the Indian government's External Affairs Ministry Office
through the RTI (Right to Information) Act. As per this information, the Indian
Government has spent a staggering sum of 2,891.77 crore rupees (28,920,000,000
Rs = US $ 672,558,140) for Muslim Hajj pilgrimage in the last 5 years.
The editor-in-general of "Suchana Adhikar Manch" in Patiala, Punjab,
Mr. D.C. Gupta and the publishing editor Mr. Kumar Sarin asked the Indian
Government's External Affairs department about Hajj subsidy through the RTI Act
on July 31, 2010. The External Affairs secretary Mr. Manbir Singh replied in writing
that the Central Government has been providing this Hajj subsidy since 1991.
Mr. Manbir revealed that in just the last 5 years, a total of 2,891.77 crore
rupees have been spent for 640,792 Muslim Hajj pilgrims. He also mentioned that
between the years 2008 and 2009, 121,695 Muslim pilgrims went to Hajj from the
country. The Government provided subsidy of 70,238 rupees (US $ 1,634) per
person and a total of 864.77 crore rupees (US $ 201,162,791) was spent in just
one year.
The ministry has also informed that the Indian Government does not provide
any subsidy for pilgrimage for any other religious group.
As per a Hindustan Times news article published on April 10, 2010, it was
disclosed that the Central Govt. spent 367 crore rupees (US $ 85,348,837) on
2006, 390 crore (US $ 90,697,675) in 2007 and 826 crore (US $ 192,093,023) in
2008 as subsidy for the Hajj pilgrimage.

3.2.2 The Ahmadias
Plight of Ahmadias is ignored all the time. On 3 May 2012 came a startling news.
Kashmir Mufti Declares Ahmadis to be Kuffar
http://www.deccanchronicle.com/channels/nation/north/declare-ahmadis-non-muslims-grand-mufti-096
Mufti Muhammad Bashiruddin Kashmir’s Grand Mufti on
Wednesday stirred up a real hornet’s nest by asking for declaring Ahmadis or
Ahmadiyyas as non-Muslims through a legislation in the state Assembly. The
cleric, Mufti Muhammad Ashiruddin, who is recognised by both the state government and the Centre as official
'Mufti Azam' or Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, while speaking at a meeting
of religious leaders here
organised by the Jammu and
Kashmir Muslim Personal Board headed by him, said that all legislators should
jointly table a bill in the state Assembly during its coming session and ensure
it was passed with voice votes as well to declare Ahmadis as non-Muslims. “That will address the grievance of all the people in
the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” he asserted, adding that the move had become
imperative in the face of the “believers of Mirzaiat and Qadiyaniat only having
increased their activities.”
A handout issued at the end
of the meeting adds, “On the issue of increasing activities of the believers of
Mirzaiat and Qadiyaniat, the Islamic Sharia Council has made it clear that in
all parts of the world Qadiyanis have been declared non Muslims. Hence, Mufti
Azam appealed all legislators of Jammu and Kashmir “to pass the bill in coming
Assembly session to declare them non Muslims in our state as well so that
grievance of all the people of state is addressed.”
Ahmadiyya is a reformist
movement within Islam founded in British India towards the end of the 19th
century, originating with the life and teachings of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed
(1835–1908), who claimed that he was the Mujaddid (divine reformer) and the
promised Messiah and Mahdi awaited by Muslims.
The adherents of the
Ahmadiyya movement are referred to as Ahmadis or Ahmadi Muslims. India has a
significant Ahmadiyya population, most of them living in Kerala, Rajasthan,
Orissa, Haryana, Bihar, Delhi, UP and in Qadian in Punjab, the birthplace of
Mirza Ahmed.

On 27 March 2012 our friend Ramesh Shinde wrote from Mumbai -
HYDERABAD: Muslims disrupted Prayers in Ahmediya mosque; said Ahmedia's were not Muslims
Tension prevailed at an Ahmediya mosque in
Saidabad when a group of people belonging to a dominant sect of a community
tried to disrupt afternoon prayers on Sunday. At about 2.30 pm, about 200
activists belonging to Majlis Tahaffuz Khatm-e-Nubuwwat group led by their city
leader Mohammed Ali Ansar Khatim went to Masjid-ul- Hamd Ahmadiyya mosque in
Saidabad and asked the faithful to stop prayers, the Saidabad police said.
Nearly 500 Ahmadis were inside the mosque celebrating their sect's formation
day.
"The miscreants abused the people saying that they were not Muslims and
told them to immediately stop the prayers. After that, they staged a rasta roko
in front of the mosque," Saidabad
inspector K Narsing Yadaiah informed.
Some miscreants even hurled stones at the mosque, but police claimed no one
suffered any injuries. A special police team was rushed to the spot. The mob
was quickly dispersed by the police and the Ahmadis were escorted out of the
place. "We will register cases under the relevant sections of the
law," the inspector said.
Note – Despite such persecutions Ahmedias will NOT say that they are not
Muslims but Ahmedias only. Compare this to stand of Dr Ambedkar who declared in
1935 that he will not die as a Hindu!

Hundreds of thousands attend JSQM ‘Freedom March’
Demonstrators denounce Pakistan Resolution of 1940 and chant
slogans
in favour of ‘Sindhu
Desh’
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2012\03\24\story_24-3-2012_pg12_5
By Asghar Azad / KARACHI:
undreds of thousands of leaders, activists and supporters of
the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) brought out the ‘Freedom March’ from Numaish
Chowrangi to Tibet Centre here on Friday, denouncing the Pakistan Resolution of
1940 and chanting slogans in
favour of ‘Sindhu Desh’.
Dozens of processions arrived late Friday night outside the residence of JSQM
Chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Karachi. Welcome camps were
set up in various areas of the city to guide processions and participants
coming from other parts of Sindh. The camps were set up at Tool Plaza, Supper
Highway, Kathore Bridge, Sasui Tool Palza, Razaq Abad, Bhens Colony, Malir
Halt, Natha Khan, Drigh Road, Karsaaz, Hassan Square, Nipa Chowrangi, Sohrab
Goth, Safoora Chowrangi, Johar Chowarngi and Nursery. The main rally was taken
out from Gulshan-e-Hadeed, which was led by party leaders Qureshi, Asif Baladi,
Sagar Hanif Burrdi and Dr Niaz Kalani. It arrived at Numaish Chowrangi and
joined the ‘Freedom March’.
The people were spread from Peoples’ Secretariat Chowrangi to Tibet Centre on
both sides of MA Jinnah Road peacefully. It was second consecutive year that
the party organised the
‘Freedom March’.
Hundreds of processions were taken out from different cities and towns of Sindh
including Larkana, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta,
Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Tharparker, Mithi, Jhudo, Sanghar,
Khairpur, KN Shah, Dadu, Faizganj, Kumb, Naushehro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro,
Gambat, Ranipur, Shahdadkot, Thari Mirwah, Qamber, Shaheed Benazirabad, Daour,
Umerkot, Qazi Ahmad, Hala, Saeed Abad, Mehar, Pir Jo Goth, Karoondi, Padedan,
Bhirya Road, Moro and Sakrand.
Strict security arrangements were made for the march as all the entrances and
exist points were closed with buses, water tankers and other barriers from Guro
Mander toTibet Centre on M A Jinnah Road. Hundreds of policemen, including
Rangers and other law enforcement personnel performed security duty.
Addressing the participants, Qureshi said that Sindh had voluntarily merged
itself into the country under 1940’s Pakistan Resolution but now its people
were disowning it as the resolution had failed to protect rights and autonomy
of the province during last 65 years. “We Sindhis now disown the Pakistan
Resolution, say it good bye and demand independence of Sindh according to
historical status”, he said.
The Sindhi nationalist leader announced that his party accepted Urdu speaking
population in Sindh during the partition and considered them part of Sindh,
adding, the Urdu speaking population would have to take steps for Sindh and its
people sincerely and would prove their attachment with Sindh. “We Sindhis made
remarkable progress for establishing harmonized socioeconomic system linked
with agriculture and overcome numerous obstacles in their way to prosperity
with the passage of time”, Qureshi said.
The JSQM chief further said that the Pakistan Resolution was tabled in Sindh
Assembly on March 23, 1940 that stated that a separate state would be establish
in Muslim majority areas. He said their leader GM Syed had demanded Pakistan
while tabling that resolution in the Sindh Assembly.
Qureshi said, “The establishment and rulers, especially Punjab who ruled the
country from the day first have never complied with the resolution.” He said a
pocket of Muslim League leaders had devised a conspiracy at a meeting of All
India Muslim League’s working session just before one year of establishment of
Pakistan and entitled it ‘Pakistan will be a religious nation state that was
totally against the Pakistan Resolution of 1940’. By this act the resolution
broke before its completion.”
Qureshi said that Jeay Sindh Movement founder GM Syed had warned the
international community at the Vienna convocation in 1952 about threats of
religious extremism in this region, as saying that creating a state on the
basis of religion would promote religious extremism and harm global peace.
Qureshi pointed out that Sindh was once the land of religious harmony, where
Hindus and Muslims lived like brothers. (So, what happened in 1947? Why
were Hindus mercilessly hounded out? Karachi was a Hindu majority city.
Overnight it was deserted). He said that Sindh’s land was fertile owing to
the Indus River and it was a junction of international trade, that was why
foreign invaders attacked it several times, adding that Sindhis never had the
psyche of invading anyone because of their rich social and cultural status,
however, the Sindhis had boldly resisted the invaders.
Qureshi asked the Urdu speaking community to come forward and demand the rights
of Sindh. We want to make clear to Urdu speaking people that we Sindhis are
considering them as brethren and part of Sindhi nation.

Historians can make mistakes too
The case
of Bhawani Talwar of Great Maratha King Shivaji
For quite
some time it was believed by many that above sword is in London in British
Museum or some such place. In fact such stories are mere rumours. That sword
does not exist. What exists is a sword called Jagadamba Sword. It is kept in
Queen’s private collection. In 2009 Godbole received an E Mail from Rahul
Deshmukh, an IT Engineer. His attachment contained an article giving full
details. It runs as follows --
In 1875
Jagadamba Sword was presented to Prince of Wales, Edward VII by young Maharaja
of Kolhapur during latter’s visit to India. The Maharaja was hardly 12 years of
age. It was his notorious Diwan, Rao Bahadur Barve who took Maharaja to Mumbai
to be presented to Edward VII. Barve induced the valuable sword to be given
away as a gift.
Historian
Babasaheb Purandare had an opportunity to examine that sword through the
efforts of his friend Kishor Deshmukh in London. Purandare had met Nanasaheb
Gore the then Indian High Commissioner for the same purpose, but had no luck.
About his thrilling experience Purandare has written to one Anilrao Walimbe of
Satata. It was published in magazine called Shivasparsha. Purandare says
-
In London
there are many places of historical importance. The British are interested in
preserving them. The oldest being the White Tower built 950 years ago (wrong –
this is Tower of London). London is the capital of English who once ruled over
us. But it has articles and places of which we would be proud of. I saw many of
them.
There was
also the house where Lokamanya Tilak once stayed. It was pulled down. Why? And
on whose orders? In 1956 a portrait of Lokamanya Tilak was unveiled by Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru.
There are
lots of objects to see here. Victoria and Albert Museum has statue of Bhavani.
So beautiful that one feels like taking it back home. My friend Mr Sonapatki
took me to basement of Victoria and Albert Museum. The manager showed us
Shivaji’s waghnakhas (tiger claws) with which he killed tyrant Afzal Khan. I
was thrilled. These were presented to the museum by Adrian Grant Duff, perhaps
great-great grandson of Grant Duff who wrote History of Marathas in 1832. The
note says - Tiger claws said to have been possessed by Shivaji.
The Museum
has so many other objects including golden Hona (a coin) in days of Shivaji.
Today is
the day of Dasara (Ashwin Shuddha 10th). 11 October 1978. Very
important to Maratha warriors. I was lucky to see the Jagadamba Talwar.
Permission was sought by Kishor Dushmukh through Lord Chamberlain. By sheer
chance a letter from our High Commissioner Gore also reached Lord Chamberlain.
At Buckingham Palace, Deshmukh and I were met by an English lady named Julie
Harland who came with the sword. I saluted the sword to show my deep reverence
and respect. Julie said that she appreciated my feelings. She gave me two
copies of catalogues of Queen’s collection and said that we could spend as long
with the sword as we wish. We had never been treated so courteously in our
motherland.
I guess it
was made in Tolado in Spain. I was surprised how well it was preserved. We were
not allowed to take cameras in Buckingham Palace. Julie told us that we will
get official photographs of the sword in post. I was deeply satisfied with our
visit.

On 6 July 2009 Godbole wrote to Rahul Deshmukh
Dear Rahul,
Many thanks for this E Mail. Mukund Sonapatki was a good friend, but he never
said anything about Shivaji's Wagh-nakhas (tiger claws).
I am surprised by some mistakes made by Purandare about Tilak's place of
residence in London. 1956 was the year if birth centenary of Tilak. So, efforts
were made by some devotees to put up a plaque on 10 Howley Place, London NW2
where Tilak lived for 10 months (1918-19). The owner refused permission, so the
devotees asked the owner of 60 Talbot Road, London W11 where Tilak lived for
last four months. That owner agreed. The plaque was unveiled by President Kwame
Nakhruma of Ghana in 1961.
So, the question of Nehru unveiling Tilak's portrait in that house in 1956 just
does not arise!! Where does Purandare get his information from?
Why was the house pulled down?
That was NOT the only house that was pulled down. In 1975 Westminster City
Council purchased houses numbers 42 to 106. These were pulled down and Council
Flats were built in their place. Nothing cynical about it. House numbers 57 to
97 are in tact. There is a public park in front of houses 57 to 67.
I am astonished that Historian like Purandare who refuses to accept truth about
Taj Mahal, should make such misleading statements. / Vasukaka
Rahul replied, “Me too wondered by his statement about
Tilak's residency because I personally visited that place. However I don't have
deep knowledge to challenge that. You can write letter to him accordingly.
Ultimately he is also a human being and humans make mistakes. Thanks / Rahul
Godbole wrote - Dear Rahul,
Alas, Purandare does NOT accept that he can make mistake. You
have obviously not read my book - Why Rewrite Indian History in which I
have explained mental attitude of Purandare. He says even in public - if there
is a slightest doubt about Shivaji we must side with our critics and must NOT
say that Shivaji was a great person in this respect. And yet when it comes to
Taj Mahal, he becomes tongue tied. I had written to him on 3 occasions and
received no reply. Why don't you write to him and see what he says? Vasukaka
One Nilesh Lele wrote from Mumbai, “ In doubt, clarity can be obtained from
Babasaheb Purandare only, when he is available. How can we say - from
where he got information and that too calling it misleading.”
Godbole replied, “Clarity can indeed be obtained if
Purandare had the decency to reply. In the past, I wrote him 3 letters, but never
received a reply. Perhaps you would like to write to him and see if you get any
explanation. How about that?”
Lele said, “If a prominent person like you can’t get an
answer what chance have I got?” (So, it is always what some one else should do)
Another friend form London wrote, “I have read your mail. Frankly, I had never heard of a Jagdamba
sword.” Godbole replied - Are you saying that just because
YOU had never heard of a Jagdamba sword, it does not exist?
One person naively wrote from New Delhi – I should like know
whether the Jagdamaba sword of Shivaji is a real piece and is kept in the
Buckingham Palace. If so, whether the Indian Government or some one else ever
tried to get it in India and the result. Whether such an attempt now would be
worthwhile?
Godbole replied, “Jagadamba sword was personally seen by
great Historian Babasaheb Purandare of Pune. So, it is genuine. Government of
India would never be interested in such matters.”
The person from New Delhi replied, “Thanks for this encouraging reply. May I now suggest that you write a letter to Shri L.K. Advani, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shri Raj Nath Singh, President BJP, Bal Thakeray, Shiv Sena chief, to take up the matter of bringing back to India the sword of Shivaji with Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi Chairperson of the UPA? If they don't act, it will expose them and alert the silent and neutral Hindu majority.”
(Once again, he knows what Godbole should do, but he would
do nothing)
Another person working for Air India wrote from Mumbai, “Namaskaar, Thanks for your mail. The statement made by Mr Purandare is absolutely right. I have seen that photograph where Mr Nehru is present with Mr Jayantrao Tilak at
10 Howley place. At the moment I don’t have any reference with me but I will try to send you the details. I am sure Mr Madhu Abhyankar (of London) can tell you something about this incident.”
Godbole replied, “Jayantrao Tilak (grandson of Lokamanya Tilak) unveiled the plaque on 10 Howley Place, on 29 October 1988 to mark the 70th anniversary of Tilak's arrival at that place. Nehru died on 27 May 1964, some 24 years earlier!”
“Moreover, Purandare was NOT aware of 10 Howley place which still exists. He is referring to 60 Talbott Road, which was pulled down in 1975/76. Purandare went there in 1978 and saw that the house was demolished. Please do check your facts.”
Undaunted, the employee of Air India replied – “Please give me some time to find out but I am sure I have photograph (newspaper cutting) where Mr Nehru and Mr J Tilak are unveiling a plaque. If you do not mind please contact Mr Madhu Abhyankar his residential no is 0208 6891108. He will definitely tell you something about this incidence.”
4.2 British Historians, Muslims and Tragedy of India
Godole has at last revised this work and sent copies to his friends for comments. By merely using the words Muslim Rule, British Historians created an impression in the minds of Indian Muslims that THEY were the rulers in India before the British. This has led to disastrous consequences ultimately culminating in Partition in 1947. The Muslim rulers were Turkish Muslims and NOT Indian Muslims.
4.3 Little Warsaw of Kathiawar – forgotten history of our
generosity to the Polish people.
Our friend Ashok Chowgule gave us some important information on 23 December
2010
A grateful Poland recalls the ruler of Nawanagar's kindness
towards its
WWII refugee children
"When others were killing our children, you were able to save
them." Emotional statements are
not the stuff of formal interactions between high dignitaries, but this is
precisely what Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said to President Pratibha
Patil during his visit to India in September this year. It was a clear
indication that nearly 70 years on, the heartwarming story of hundreds of
Polish children who found sanctuary in the princely state of Nawanagar in the
Kathiawar region of present-day Gujarat during World War II is still remembered
with gratitude in their homeland.
The celebrated 'Kinder-transport' project, in which the UK rescued thousands of
children from Nazi Germany and occupied Europe in 1938, finds an echo in the
noble decision by Digvijaysinhji, the maharaja, or 'Jam Saheb', of Nawanagar to
take in Polish children from war-torn, occupied Poland and Soviet prison camps.
The Jam Saheb took personal risks to make the arrangements when the exhausted
refugees were denied entry at all ports. Digvijaysinhji, built a camp for them
in a place called Balachadi beside his summer palace, 25 km from his capital,
Jamnagar, and made them feel at home. The Jam Saheb's gesture is said to have
paved the way for thousands of Polish refugees to be received in other parts of
the world, including some other places in India.
Nearly 68 years after the children arrived in Jamnagar and 64 years after their
repatriation, there is renewed interest in the story in Poland, possibly
triggered by a desire to ensure that this valued slice of memory passes on to a
younger generation of Poles. As part of this commemorative effort, a square or
an important street in Warsaw is likely to be named after the Jam Saheb. (A
prestigious higher secondary school in the Polish capital has been named after
him.)
Plans are afoot to honour
this "Indian Schindler" with a posthumous award, and make a feature
film on the subject. Meanwhile, Indian historian Anuradha Bhattacharya's book
on this humane encounter will be released in 2011.
Prof Piotr Klodkowski, Poland's ambassador to India, told Outlook that
distant though the historical event is, it still stirs emotions in Poland.
"This is a true and captivating story for the 'aam admi' in both India and
Poland. It is a story hidden like a precious stone in history. We are not
satisfied with the common man's knowledge of this story and intend to popularise it and retell it
in various forms," he said.
Commenting on the significance of retelling the story, M. Krzysztof Byrski, Indologist and former Polish ambassador to India, said:
"Each event in the history of our relations that exemplifies disinterested
generosity should be remembered. After the nightmare of their morbid experience
in the limitless, frosty wastes of Siberia, these children found a safe haven
in India, which for them appeared like heaven."
So, what is the story?
The Jam Saheb's children Harshad Kumari and Shatrushalyasinhji say, on the
basis of conversations with their father, that there were nearly 600 children
and 40 women at the camp; and that all of them came directly from Poland, after
the Wehrmacht attacked it. Hiding from the invaders, they were rescued and put
on small ships that travelled
from port to port in Scotland, Ireland, Africa but were barred from entering.
Finally, they arrived in Bombay, where the British governor also refused entry
(saying he did not have permission from the home office in London and that they
came from enemy territory). Enter the Jam Saheb, then an Indian representative
on the imperial war cabinet in London chaired by Winston Churchill. Hearing of
the children's plight from the Polish prime minister-in-exile, he flew
immediately to Bombay. He first went to the ships, saw the dreadful condition
of the kids, spoke to the captains and went to meet the governor. "Our
father tried to convince him, but when he failed, he was so frustrated, he went
back to the ships and asked them to move to Nawanagar's Rosi port. He took them
all off and put them in tented accommodation for a few months before the
Balachadi camp came up," the siblings recall.
Another extraordinary detail recounted by the siblings is that when the vice regal office in Delhi
objected to him taking in foreigners, he said they were part of his family, and
even produced an adoption certificate. "Our father politically adopted
them," says Harshad Kumari, adding that he bankrolled the project from his
personal funds.
The narrative of events pieced together by Bhattacharya, and the more-or-less
matching version provided by Wieslaw Stypula, a 'Balachadian' who wrote about
his stay in a commemorative volume, Poles in India 1942-1948, differs in significant
ways from the siblings' account. While corroborating the fact that the princely
state of Nawanagar was the first to offer sanctuary to the children, the
historian says they were evacuated out of the Soviet Union (they were Polish
refugees deported to the USSR and interned in camps after their country was
invaded by the Red Army in 1939) - first by road in 1942 and, according to
archival documents, maintained out of charitable funds raised in India (Rs
6,00,000 between 1942-48), subscribed to by several Indian princes.
Stypula, in his account, says: "After the Maharaja's offer...a Polish
Children's Fund was opened with a Rs 50,000 grant from the viceroy of India,
and Rs 8,500 collected by the Polish Red Cross." He narrates a moving tale
about the condition of the children who reached Ashkabad, Turkmenistan, the
assembly point for them in the then Soviet Union: "A seven-year-old boy,
after the death of his parents from typhus, was left with his 18-year-old
sister-alone on the Uzbek farm. When news reached him that evacuations were
being organised
somewhere in town, the boy set out on a dozen-kilometre journey to Samarkand, with his sister on his back...."
Discrepancies in the narratives, Bhattacharya says, may be explained by the
fact that many batches of children and refugees arrived in India, including a
batch of 200 Polish children who arrived by ship and a Jewish group that came
to Bombay after being denied permission to land at various ports.
"However," she says, “There is no denying that the
Jam Saheb's generosity is unparalleled. It was the cornerstone for other Polish
people to get sanctuary in India." That they found refuge here also,
Bhattacharya says, "speaks volumes about the national movement, which was
not xenophobic, and about the Indian people who showed no antagonism to the
presence of the Polish children in a year of severe drought and famine."
In an interview in the November 25, 1942, issue of Polska, a weekly Polish
magazine, the Jam Saheb spoke of his decision to welcome the Polish kids:
"Maybe there, in the beautiful hills beside the seashore, the children
will be able to recover their health and to forget the ordeal they went
through.... I sympathise
with the Polish nation and its relentless struggle against oppression."
The Jam Saheb's extraordinary dedication to the cause of the Polish children is
evident from Stypula's account of their departure, after a United
Nations-assisted repatriation began in 1946: "Farewell-good man from the
good land. 'Polish' Maharajah Jam Saheb. Your tears and your voice trembling
with deep emotion, when you spoke to us for the last time at the station in
Jamnagar, said it all." It is only right that Poland today wants posterity
to remember him.

Subject: Hindu Dharma, and Hindu Rashtra, it is only a castle in the air.
From: atcptrivedi@gmail.com
To: nagdads@yahoo.com
Dear
Nagdaji,
Excellent intelligent comment on Hindu. The Hindu is not a religion nor the
identity of an Indian, it was the name given by foreign invaders to non Muslim
Indians, it was the identity of a non Muslim - Kafir, we innocent Indians
consider that the word Hindu is a term for Sindhu from it the name of India as
Hindustan is in practice. (This gentleman never heard of Savarkar)
You can not find the word Hindu in any ancient text, Hindu Rashtra or Hindu is
only a matter of politics, any one can declare himself as Hindu (but do
they?) and India as Hindu Rashtra, it is not going to solve the problem. It
can only increase the rift between the Indians, which is essential to rule over
the country. Babu suseelan has no idea about Hindu, he is just advocating the
political ideology of Hindu Rashtra.
The Christians or Muslims are suffering from ignorance, and by advocating the
Hindu religion, we are increasing their fear of conversion into Hindu, and
consequently they unite with each other more efficiently.
The intellectuals must come forward to eradicate the wrong notion of Hindu
Dharma, and Hindu Rashtra, it is only a castle in the air.
Dr.C.P.Trivedi
On 27 June 2012 Babu Suseelan wrote from America -
Hindu Dharma, and Hindu Rashtra, it is only a castle in the air.
Thousands of
years of Islamic brutality and hundreds of years of Christian Colonialism and Nehruvian Utopian anti Hindu
misbehavior could not eliminate or wipe out 120 cores of Hindus.
For thousands of years, Jews have been
butchered, assaulted,
discriminated and burned alive by Muslims and Christians. But Hertzel's
declaration and demand for a Jewish state unified and made Jews brave lions.
Who in the world can deny Israel or Jews and their contributions. There are
only 15 million Jews in the world. Is there any religious groups or nations can
ignore Jews?
Bhagwat Goel responded -
Dr
Babu Suseelan Ji:
While
I fully agree with you but with due respect, there is other side too. After
suffering thousands years of slavery under most barbarian rules, we still are
nearly 120 Crores around the
world
Babu
Suseelan replied to Dr Trivedi
Subject:
Hindu Dharma, and Hindu Rashtra, it is only a castle in the air.
We all know by what Hindu mean. Ideas have consequences, impact and
meaning. Our Hindu Dharma cannot exist and grow in a castle or abstract Ideas
cannot become functional concept, strategies and action without a Rashtra. Mindless
universalism, meaningless catch all phrases are going to lead us nowhere. Those
who preach the meaningless belief that Hindu Rashtra is useless, a dream, a
castle etc are ways to ruin our country, dilute our dharma, values and culture.
These mindless universalists have made us slaves to Muslims and Colonial
Christians for thousands of years. Without coherent, meaningless
political ideology you achieve nothing. We have to have a Hindu Rashtra. We
have to fight back. But we cannot fight when our country is misdirected,
controlled by misfits, vagabonds, and criminals and corrupt politicians. Hindus
must fight back with self-esteem, proud and assertiveness. These distorted
ideas that Hindu name is given by Muslims and we have to believe in all
religions are the same come from a closed mind, and its entertainment value
comes from their willingness to lie and distort. Only Islamic zombies can say
like Hindu Rashtra is useless. Our distracters want to be funny and attractive
to our enemies. The question must be asked: Why certain universal Hindus
are against a Hindu Rashtra? To such enemies and friends of enemies this
much I have to say "Go to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or
Somalia and say that all religions are the same and Allah or Krishna are the
same.
