Institute for Rewriting Indian History

16-6-1980

Dear Member,

As there are at least 17 members of the Institute in this country, we feel it is time to know each other; Set up objectives and discus the progress of our work periodically, exchange ideas etc. Hence this newsletter.

Our current activities are as follows;

1. Mr.Godbole.

After a detailed study of the Taj Mahal legend he agrees with Mr.Oak. However he totally disapproves of Mr. Oak's style of presentation. And as such he has written his own analysis. (He will gladly send you a copy on request) He is willing and prepared to give a lecture on the subject.

At his insistence Mr. Oak has written a letter to the president of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). A copy of this letter and Mr. Godbole's analysis of the Taj Mahal legend was sent to professors of Architecture in this country. Six replies were received. All found the analysis very interesting. Further correspondence continues.

A suggestion has been made to Mr. Oak that we ought to send copies of the Annual Reports of the Institute to all major libraries of the world to ensure widest possible publicity. The reports themselves will be of immense value to scholars all over the world.

At his insistence, Mr. Oak has written a letter to the editor of the RIBA journal challenging an article on Taj Mahal which occurred in December 1977 issue of the Journal. A general letter was sent to presidents of Institutes of Architects in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and U.S.A. pointing out the baselessness of Islamic Architecture. Copies of this letter are being sent to professors of Architecture in those countries.

Maharashfcra Mandal, London are going to publish Mr. Godbole's analysis of Taj Mahal legend in one of their monthly brochures.

The next task will be to write to all major publishers and well known authors pointing out the folly of Taj Mahal legend. This is expected t take 2 to 3 years.

2. Mr. N. Chauhan.

He is actively trying to enrol new members. But the major handicap is the lack of a brochure on our Institute. He is trying to prepare one himself. Any assistance you can give would, be appreciated.

3 Mr. B. Patel.

Letters sent by Mr. Oak addressed to Oxford and .Webster - dictionaries, pointing out that English language was derived from Sanskrit, were posted. Copies of these are being sent to Professors of English language in U.K. However extensive modifications have been suggested by Mr. Godbole, to make them effective. Mr. Oak's reply is awaited.

Mr. Patel is going to contact various Gujrati organisations. These seem to have been neglected during Mr. Oak's visit of 1977. He will try to keep these organisation informed of the Institutes work and findings and try to enrol new members.

4. Mr. Begde, a member of our Institute and an architect from New Delhi is coming here In September In 1980 for a nine month's course. He is anxious to deliver lectures on Taj Mahal and related subjects. Could you help by arranging any lectures?

5. We are anxious to know your activities so that they can be included in the next newsletter. If you like to help us but do not know how, contact us.

6. Please write or phone any one of us for your comments and suggestions.
